Thursday Recap – Dual #1
Dual #1 is under way as Dirty Vegas pinch hitter Nick Canfield hits a grand slam!
The 2026 Conference USSSA season continued on Thursday, April 16th at noon Eastern time with the first of two 16 team double elimination tournaments. 15 of the 16 teams were from the Conference USSSA league and they came from 13 different states. The winner of each tournament scored 180 + (15 x 4) = 240 points. There were 4 Major teams this year and 11 AA/A teams in the bracket. They played in near perfect weather at the USSSA headquarters in Viera, Florida at the Space Coast Stadium Complex on its 5 baseball fields including the Stadium which had 325-365-385-365-325 outfield fence dimensions. They used a 50 foot pitching rubber and 75 foot bases and two batches of Dudley Stadium ZN balls. The one batch did not fly that great. The other batch which had more purplish writing on them, flew much better.
The “Round of 16” in Dual #1:
There was an upset right off the bat as DIRTY VEGAS/#TeamDawn (TX-A) scored 8 in the top of the 2nd and 10 in the top of the 4th to beat I-57 Roofing/Beloli SIS/All Hustle (IL-AA) 31-21 out hitting them 36-24 while both teams hit 10 of their 14 homers. They played on the Red Wilson field which was the only field with the wind blowing out. Dirty Vegas leadoff hitter Travis Tucker was 6-6 and hit for the cycle and Nick Canfield hit a 400 foot pinch hit grand slam in the win.
Juno Athletics / LSR (NJ-Major) made quick work of the new Conference ‘A’ team ACS/Easton (FL-A) beating them 24-5 in 5 innings and out homering them 10-3 as Filip Washington, Bishop Harris, Matt Valencia, and Michal Rainer each went 4-4.
Over on Red Easton with the wind blowing in Worshams/HM/S&E/Demarini/RedAthlete (NC-AA) jumped out to a 17-5 lead on Primetime scoring 9 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Primetime tried to make it interesting in the bottom of the 7th when they scored 9 runs all on base hits and walks but lost 18-15. Both teams hit just 2 home runs in the game and leadoff hitter Henry Campbell went 4-5 and SS Greg Popatak went 4-4 in the win for their new team Worshams.
In the stadium #2 seed Resmondo-SIS-Stub Term-RDD-S&S-LLC- (FL-Major) scored 12 runs on 4 home runs in the top of the 1st inning against Fishers/All Hustle/Leacock Sports (PA-B). But Fisher’s pulled to within 17-13 by the end of the 3rd. From there on it was all Resmondo as they outscored Fisher’s 15-1 down the stretch, winning by the run rule 32-14 in 6 innings, and out homering Fisher’s 6-1. Bradley Jones was 5-5 in Resmondo’s season opener.
At 1:45 PM the next set of games began with Bay Area Legends (CA-A) holding off and upsetting WestPoint (IN-AA) 24-21 on Red Wilson with the wind blowing out.
ShoreOL/CheapSuits/Str8play/Rebel (CA-Major) scored 11 in the top of the 2nd while holding SNI/Anarchy/Drawbridge/Selfmade (FL-A) scoreless through the first two innings. Shore nor SNI could score much in the wind the rest of the game and Shore advanced 14-6 out homering SNI 4-2. Shore’s Chris Anninos, Marc Wik, Kyle Center, and Tyler Dickens were each 3-4.
On Red Easton the winds held the teams to just 1 home run total and that was hit down into the left field corner by BeHappy/StandardPlumbing (AZ-AA) pitcher Kyle Johnson. But Legendz/Envy/ThirtyFour7/Schlabach (OK-AA) did a better job of scoring in the wind and pulled out a 9-4 victory out hitting BeHappy 13-10. Legendz outfielder Carlin Yoder went 3-3 with 2 doubles and a triple in the win.
And in the stadium #1 seed DanSmith/Proton/Thunder/RoofX/RF/BD (IN-Major) rolled thru the non-conference ‘A’ team SAL-8/PHP/BAF from Virginia 27-2, scoring 11 runs in the top of the 3rd and 5th innings. Dan Smith two hitter Jeremey Fry, Andrew Collins, and Tyler Storey were all 4-4 in the win as they out homered SAL-8 7-0.
The Quarterfinals in Dual #1:
At 3:30 PM the quarterfinals began and it was the 4 major teams taking on ‘A’ and ‘AA’ teams. Juno Athletics rolled thru the upset minded Dirty Vegas team 30-10 on Red Marucci, scoring 16 runs in the top of the 4th inning. Greg Connell went 5-5 with 3 doubles and a homer, Cody Herring 4-4 with 2 HR and 7 RBI, and Erik Nevoso 4-4 with 3 runs scored in the win.
Resmondo in the stadium outscored Worshams 13-3 down the stretch to win in 7 innings 24-14, out homering Worshams 12-2. Everett Williams was 5-5 with 3 runs scored and Quincy Latimore hit 3 HR in the win.
Over on Red Wilson, Shore Outdoor Living scored 15 runs on 5 HR early in the game and left Bay Area Legends on the field 29-13 by scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. There were 3 inside the park home runs in the game, 2 by Bay Area’s Adam Harrington and 1 by Shore’s Tyler Dickens. Shore leadoff hitter John Radich led the offense by going 5-5 and pitcher Kyle Center went 4-4 and hit for the cycle.
In the stadium Dan Smith scored crooked numbers in every inning and drew away from and run ruled Legendz 27-6, out homering them 12-1. Ryan Harvey and Austyn Dawe were each 4-4 and Harvey hit 3 home runs.
The Semifinals:
Resmondo in the blue hits against Juno in the black in Dual #1 semifinal #1.
The semifinals were played Thursday night in the stadium and it was the 4 Major teams fighting it out. First Resmondo laid a smack down on Juno scoring 23 runs in the top of the 3rd inning on just 5 home runs to win 31-3 by the new 25 run rule after 3 innings. Kyle Pearson, Everett Williams, Jason Matusik, Daniel Cayton, and Heath Barnes were all perfect on base in the game. They hit 8 doubles and drew 8 walks while out homering Juno 10-1. And on the defensive side CF Cory Briggs and LF Steele Lewis made nice catches on the fence, and pitcher Travis Clark got a strike out looking to end the game.
Dan Smith in the black hits against Shore OL in the army green in Dual #1 semifinal #2.
In the second semifinal game Dan Smith jumped out to a 9-1 lead after one inning. Shore struggled to score and left the bases loaded in the top of the 2nd. And when Dan Smith led 11-4 going into the bottom of the 4th, they went on a home run string by Josh Riley, Tyler Ervine (twice), Tyler Storey, and then Austyn Dawe who left Shore on the field by hitting a 3 run homer to trigger the run rule 26-4. They had out homered Shore 7-1 in the game and out hit them 26-6. Dawe was 4-4, Brandon Yoder 3-3, and Anthony Acevedo 4-4 with 3 doubles in the win. There were some strange things that happened in this one: Shore’s Robbie Scott was ejected when he hit a double but was never announced by the Shore OL management to the umpire that he was in the game. And Jeremy Fry playing middle for Dan Smith was warned for moving before the pitch. There is a new emphasis on this old rule and it is a warning for both teams and any subsequent movement by an infielder before the pitch can result in an ejection.
Dan Smith RF Arlis Miller robs a homer in the winner’s final.
The winner’s final then played out late Thursday night with the wind still blowing in. Dan Smith outscored Resmondo 5-4 in the 1st inning even though their inning ended on a strike out looking on a pitch by Travis Clark. In the bottom of the 3rd Dan Smith scored 12 runs as the Resmondo defense misplayed 3 balls. In the top of the 2nd and 4th innings Dan Smith right fielder Arlis Miller robbed a Resmondo home run. Then when Resmondo failed to score in the 4th and 5th innings, Dan Smith left them on the field with an Andrew Collins homer in the bottom of the 5th, 27-12 even though Dan Smith struck out looking 3 times in the game. Dan Smith out homered Resmondo 10-5 and out hit them 27-12. Arlis Miller and Jeremey Fry at the top of the order were each 4-4 while Brandon Yoder at the bottom of the order was 3-3 with 3 runs scored, and Ryan Harvey hit 3 home runs in the win.
The loser’s bracket played out all day Thursday with I-57 Roofing knocking off ACS, Legendz by a run on a Dave Johnson walk off homer, and Bay Area Legends 31-4, before Juno sent them to the hotel 25-16. And in the bottom of the loser’s bracket Worshams beat WestPoint 20-10 and Dirty Vegas 19-6 before Shore knocked them out 18-17 with Shore getting a flyout with the tying run on third base. Note Dirty Vegas also upset BeHappy 18-17 on a Wyatte Velasco walk off homer.
Friday Recap – Dual #1 and #2
4th place game – Juno’s Buddy Wolf hitting against Shore OL’s Kyle Center.
So, Friday morning at 8 am the 4th place game was between Shore and Juno and only the 4 major teams remained in Dual #1. In this game Shore scored in every inning primarily on base hits. Meanwhile Juno took advantage of Shore errors early on and used their power (11 home runs) to score and make it a game. The highlights were each team getting an assist to end innings early in the game. A Shore-Kyle Center grand slam in the 4th. And another Juno assist to home plate to end the top of the 7th with Shore up 28-26. In the bottom of the 7th Juno loaded the bases with no outs, down just 2 runs when Shore got a ground ball double play to the middle infielder, an intentional walk to the power hitting Donnie Walsh, and a ground out to 1st base to end the game! Shore had somehow won 28-27 even though they had been out homered 11-2. John Radich, Marc Wik, and Joey Capparelli, each reached base safely 5 times in the win.
The loser’s final was then played and Resmondo got out to a 12-7 lead on Shore. In the bottom of the 5th inning Resmondo hit 4 straight home runs and led 18-12 going into the bottom of the 6th. In that inning Resmondo hit 3 more home runs in a row, 5 in the inning as Kyle Pearson and Travis Clark hit 3 run homers and they used the last of their allotted 16 home runs to leave Shore on the field 27-12. They had out homered Shore 16-2. Travis Clark and Steele Lewis were each 4-4 with 3 home runs in the victory.
The championship for Dual #1 started at noon on Friday which was a beautiful day. A refocused Resmondo team made Dan Smith pitcher Austyn Dawe throw strikes and they batted around the order in the top of the 1st inning scoring 12 runs on 4 homer’s including 2 home runs by Kyle Pearson in the inning. But they did leave the bases loaded. Then the wind shifted from blowing out slightly to blowing its traditional left to the right field corner and Dan Smith did not answer offensively. Dan Smith walked too many Resmondo hitters early on and Resmondo knocked out Dawe in the 3rd and backup pitcher Faron Fry came in. Travis Clark then shut down Dan Smith stabbing two shots up the middle in the 3rd and 5th innings, and Resmondo won by the run rule 28-9 out homering Dan Smith 11-3. Kyle Pearson was 5-5 with 4 HR and 8 RBI, Jason Matusik 5-5, and Travis Clark 4-4 in the lopsided win.
In the “IF” game Dan Smith center fielder Brandon Yoder ran down a couple of Resmondo balls to hold them to zero in one of the early innings, and DS led 15-10 going into the bottom of the 4th. In that inning pitcher Faron Fry got a strike out looking to hold Resmondo to 3 runs. In the top of the 7th with Dan Smith leading 19-17 Resmondo right fielder Quincy Lattimore robbed Joey Miller’s home run bid and Jeremy Fry struck out looking then was ejected for arguing, and Dan Smith led 22-17 going into the bottom of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th Resmondo’s Jeremy Yates, who had been struggling, hit a pinch hit homer, Tyler Marshburn tied the game at 22-22 with a homer and still no outs, and Daniel Cayton won the game on a walk off bases loaded single to take Dual #1 23-22 and complete the “double dip”!
Dual #2 begins in the stadium – Fisher’s vs Dan Smith
Dual #2 then began at 4 PM on Friday again on the 5 baseball fields.
I-57 Roofing rolled thru Bay Area Legends 20-3. Shore OL beat ACS 22-11 when they broke open an 11-11 tie in the top of the 7th scoring 11 runs on just 1 home run. John Radich and Joey Capparelli were each 4-5 and Chad Erickson 4-4 in a game where Shore hit the just 2 home runs.
Primetime upset BeHappy 13-2 holding BeHappy scoreless in 6 of the 7 innings while scoring at least 1 run in every inning themselves! They out homered BeHappy 4-0 as Mike Williams went 4-4 with 3 extra base hits and Rod Armour hit 2 home runs.
Resmondo won in 7 innings against Sal-8 27-24 out homering them 9-1 as Everett Williams who was moved to the leadoff spot went 5-5 with 3 HR and 7 RBI, Travis Clark went 4-4, and Tyler Marshburn went 4-4.
Over on Red Wilson the wind was blowing out and Dirty Vegas out slugged WestPoint 47-29 and out hit them 40-30 while the two teams combined for 21 home runs! Dirty Vegas leadoff hitter Travis Tucker was 7-7 and hit for the cycle. He was one double away from hitting for the cycle TWICE! Tucker drove in 9 runs and scored 6 times. Daniel Larson the three hitter was also 7-7.
Juno Athletics playing on that same Red Wilson field beat SNI 32-21.
In the stadium Legendz beat Worshams 22-10 in a battle of ‘AA’ teams. Rookie sensation Chris Seise for Legendz was 4-5, hit for the cycle, and drove in 6 runs while scoring 4 times.
And Dan Smith in the stadium made short work of Fishers scoring 22 runs on 4 home runs in the bottom of the 3rd to win 32-6. Josh Riley, Jeremy Fry, Arlis Miller, and Anthony Acevdo were all 4-4, and Jared Vanderhoof 3-3 in the win.
The quarterfinals were played Friday night and all 4 major teams survived 7th inning scares:
Primetime trailed Resmondo just 15-12 going into the 7th but could muster just 1 run and lost 15-13. Both teams hit just 4 home runs in the game.
In the stadium Legendz scored 9 runs in the top of the 6th to pull to within 14-12 of Dan Smith. But Dan Smith scored 2 in the bottom of the 6th and Legendz lost 16-14 with runners on base in the top of the 7th.
Shore OL trailed I-57 Roofing 21-20 going into the 7th and scored 5 in the top of the 7th on home runs by Tyler Dickens and Joey Capparelli to go up 25-21. Then they held off I-57 25-23 even though I-57 had 2 runners on base at the end.
And in the final game of the night over on Red Wilson with the wind blowing out Juno had their hands full with Dirty Vegas as they were tied going to the 7th inning 27-27. But Juno got a controversial safe call on a headfirst slide into first base by Filip Washington, which would have been the 3rd out, and they went on to score 8 runs including a 3 run homer by Greg Connell after 3 straight RBI doubles. So Juno won 35-25. Juno hit 13 home runs in the game as Flip Washington, Bishop Harris, and Michal Rainer each reached safely 5 times.
Saturday Recap – Dual #2
Shore OL rookie sensation Robbie Scott walks off Resmondo in the semifinals of Dual #2!
The semifinals Saturday morning again were the 4 major teams. Strangely enough none of the 4 major teams lost to a non-major team in either of the two tournaments. At 9:45 AM Resmondo and Shore OL were locked in a low scoring game as Resmondo got a rare 4-6-2 double play to end the bottom of the 3rd inning with Ressy up 4-2. In the top of the 5th a number of Resmondo base hits led to a Daniel Cayton 3 run homer and they scored 5 runs, all with 2 outs to go up 11-3. But Shore OL answered with 6 runs including a 3 run homer by Marc Wik to pull within 2 runs. Resmondo went down in order in the 6th and Shore OL scored 1 run to close the gap to 11-10. In the top of the 7th Cayton hit his 3rd homer of the game for Resmondo, Steele Lewis hit a laser homer, and Resmondo scored 7 runs to go up 18-10. In the bottom of the 7th Shore OL made a lead off out, then hit 3 straight doubles, a homer, an infield single, 3 more singles, a flyout, and a pitch around walk to Cody Collins loaded the bases down 4, for rookie Robbie Scott. Scott with great confidence hit the first pitch from Travis Clark over the left field fence for a 2 out walk off grand slam homer! Shore OL had scored 9 runs in the bottom of the 7th to beat Resmondo 19-18.
This ball went off the top of Tyler Storey’s glove for a Juno home run.
In the 2nd semifinal Juno athletics scored 10 runs in the top of the 5th to separate from Dan Smith 18-11. Dan Smith answered with 8 in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead 23-19. But Juno scored 9 in the top of the 7th on a 3 run homer by John Williams, a 3 run shot by Mason Farmer, and a 3 run triple by Donnie Walsh to go up 28-23. Then behind some good pitching by Mason Farmer they got 3 mishits and held on to win 28-26 with the tying run on base even though Dan Smith hit 3 home runs in the bottom of the 7th. Juno out homered Dan Smith for the game 13-11 as Donnie Walsh was 6-6 and hit for the cycle, and Buddy Wolf went 5-5 with 3 HR.
Juno’s Mason Farmer hits one of his 13 Dual #2 home runs!
The winner’s final was then played early Saturday afternoon. Shore went up 10-0 on Juno in the top of the 2nd as shortstop Carlos Abrigo, who had a great tournament defensively, turned a double play on Juno in the bottom of the 1st. But Juno came back scoring 6 in the bottom of the 4th, 6 in the bottom of the 5th, and 11 runs on 3 homers in the bottom of the 6th, to go up 26-19. In the top of the 7th after a lead off out, Shore OL scored 11 runs on just one homer, which was a grand slam by Joey Capparelli, to go up 30-26 and relief pitcher Andrew Vitcak held Juno to just 1 hit and no runs in the bottom of the 7th to win! John Radich was 5-6, Chris Anninos 5-5, and Shore Ol had 8 doubles, 4 triples, and 6 HR in the win including rookie Robbie Scott going 2-2 with 2 triples.
The loser’s bracket played out all day Saturday as Legendz beat Bay Area and Dirty Vegas in the top half of the bracket until Resmondo dropped down and sent them home 15-12 holding Legendz scoreless in the bottom of the 7th. In the lower half of the loser’s bracket I-57 Roofing beat Worshams and Primetime before Dan Smith dropped down and beat them 28-15. So again it was the 4 major teams in the final 4.
In the 4th place game Dan Smith hit 4 straight home runs in the top of the 2nd to go up 6-2 but the inning ended on a double play. In the top of the 3rd Resmondo 2nd baseman Bradley Jones and middle infielder Heath Barnes played some great defense to hold Dan Smith to a 10-6 lead, and Everett Williams hit a 3 run homer in an 11 run bottom of the 3rd that put Resmondo up 17-10. In the bottom of the 4th Dan Smith pitcher Faron Fry stabbed a liner, and Austyn Dawe at 3rd base and Josh Riley at 2nd base made nice plays to hold Resmondo to zero. In the top of the 6th Dan Smith, trailing 23-20, scored 11 runs on 3 homers to lead 31-23 and they ended up winning 33-27. So, Resmondo finished 4th and the season series between the two super powers is now 2-2. Dan Smith out homered Resmondo 13-8 in the game as Arlis Miller went 5-6 with 4 extra base hits and Faron Fry went 4-4 with 3 doubles in the win. Daniel Cayton was 5-5 with 5 extra base hits in the loss for Resmondo.
The loser’s final was played Saturday evening and Dan Smith got off to a 5-1 early lead. But Juno scored 4 in the 5th, 7 in the 6th, and 6 in a decisive 7th inning to win 22-15 out homering Dan Smith 14-4!
The championship of dual #2 was played under the lights Saturday night as Shore OL held Juno scoreless in the top of the 1st and scored 3 runs on 3 doubles in the bottom half. The teams then traded double plays and Juno led 5-3 going into the bottom of the 4th. In that inning, Shore OL scored 6 runs on doubles and then got a Marc Wik 3 run homer to go up 12-5 in a 9 run inning. Shore OL held Juno scoreless in 3 of the 7 innings and added another 3 run “laser” homer by Marc Wik in the bottom of the 5th to win the game and the Dual #2 championship 19-9! Joey Capparelli was 4-4 with 3 extra base hits in the championship game, Wik drove in 7 runs, the team had 8 doubles in the game, and out homered Juno 4 to 2.
The tournament was well run and the weather was near perfect. The Major teams dominated and only lost games to each other. The conference travels to Euless, Texas for the Texas Legends tournament this week.

1st Place – Avg Finish 2.0 – ShoreOL/CheapSuits/Str8play/Rebel
CA-Major Record 9-2
Shore OL comes away with a 3rd and a 1st place finish at the dual. Kyle Center did most of the pitching with Andrew Vitcak as the backup. John Radich, Joey Capparelli, and Mark Wik led the offense. Capparelli led the team with 11 HR. Carlos Abrigo at 3rd base and then shortstop was the most consistent defender in the tournament. Shore OL is off to a good start and most of us in the media feel they are a better 300 foot team than they are a baseball field team.
Darrell Leonor and Shore OL were picked on the Studio Show to finish 4th or 5th in the points. They are off to a big start and Darrell is making a push for manager of the year!
Tied 2nd Place – Avg Finish 2.5 – Resmondo-SIS-Stub Term-RDD-S&S-LLC-
FL-Major Record 9-3
Resmondo came out of the loser’s bracket to “double dip” Dan Smith in dual 1 but then lost the 4th place game to Dan Smith in the 2nd dual. Travis Clark was very good on the mound. Kyle Pearson #23, Everett Williams, Daniel Cayton, and Jason Matusik led the offense and each of them had double digit home runs. Bradley Jones was fighting illness. Jeremy Yates and Bubba Mack struggled offensively. And Phil Matte was not there as he recovers from off season surgery.
Quincy Lattimore has been a nice addition from Ataraxis.
Tied 2nd Place – Avg Finish 2.5 – DanSmith/Proton/Thunder/RoofX/RF/BD
IN-Major Record 8-4
Dan Smith finished 2nd in 3rd which isn’t a great start if they want to win the points standings. Only the slightly used Jarred Vanderhoof hit over .700. Austyn Dawe (13), Tyler Ervine (17), Arlis Miller (11), Josh Riley (10), and Ryan Harvey (11) all hit double digit home runs. Dawe and Faron Fry did the pitching. Acevedo played SS. And Joe Joe Bennett injured an oblique early in the first tournament. Jason Kendrick is the manager now of Dan Smith.
4th Place – Avg Finish 3.0 – Juno Athletics / LSR
NJ-Major Record 7-4
Juno finished 4th and 2nd at the HOF. They played without suspended manager Mark Carucci. Filip Washington and John Williams played with knee injuries. Dan Herren got hurt at work and couldn’t play. So they played short handed and did ok. Pitcher Mason Farmer ended up going to the outfield and hit 13 HR in dual #2. Juno dropped out of the Texas Legends tournament due to their injuries.
5th Place – Avg Finish 5.0 – I-57 Roofing/Beloli SIS/All Hustle
IL-AA Record 6-4
I-57 was the highest finishing ‘AA’ team as they did most of their damage in the loser’s bracket beating up on ‘A’ teams. They have not sent in stats.
Tied 6th Place – Avg Finish 7.0 – DIRTY VEGAS / #TeamDawn
TX-A Record 4-4
Dirty Vegas was the highest finishing ‘A’ team as they upset ‘AA’ teams I-57 and BeHappy. They have a lot of ‘AA’ and higher experience on the roster with Travis Tucker, Donald Hollingsworth, Billy Maggard, Ben Dunn, and Nick Canfield.
Tied 6th Place – Avg Finish 7.0 – Worshams/HM/S&E/Demarini/RedAthlete
NC-AA Record 4-4
Worsham beat fellow ‘AA’ team WestPoint and gave Shore OL a run in one of their games but overall didn’t do great. Greg Popatak, Josh Cardwell, and Justin Ogletree led the offense but were the only players over .600. They hit 27 home runs in 8 games.
Tied 6th Place – Avg Finish 7.0 – Legendz/Envy/ThirtyFour7/Schlabach
OK-AA Record 4-4
Legendz beat fellow ‘AA’ team Worsham, a couple of good ‘A’ teams, and gave Resmondo a good game in the stadium. David Schwartz led the team in on base percentage at .704 and home runs 7. Dan Kirkwood did the pitching.
