Joel Sanchez and Sports Reach take on Resmondo at the Crown Town Classic!

Conference USSSA travelled to the Crown Town Classic in Shawnee, Kansas June 28-30, 2024. There were 24 teams overall and 9 of them were from the Conference. The tournament began on Friday night and ended with the final 3 teams coming back Sunday and was played at the Mid-America Softball Complex on 300 foot fields with the Dudley Pro-M ball. Resmondo/All American Athletics (FL-Major) was the #1 seed for the tournament based on Conference points and needed to win the tournament to earn the #1 seed for the upcoming Smoky Mountain Classic. And it looked like they would do this as they won their first two games Friday night by the run rule and then beat Str8play/Rebel/MAJ/DTS/LA Empire (CA-AA) in 7 innings 36-24 in the semifinals and Sports Reach/Demarini/Grizzy/SMHS (KY-AA) 35-15 in the winner’s bracket finals. But Sports Reach beat Str8play 40-35 in the loser’s bracket finals Sunday morning and then pulled off the unexpected “double dip” of Resmondo in the championship 34-33 and 30-29 to win the Crown Town Classic! The last 3 games averaged 2 hours and 10 minutes in length each and Sports Reach did it with some incredible team defense and pitching as well as timely hitting.
