#6 Westpoint (IN-AA)

vs

#5 Proton/Str8play/Rebel (CA-Major)

MWS Game #23 – WestPoint vs Proton condensed game link

Proton played good early defense including a “diver” double play by Dan Herren up the middle in the top of the 1st inning against WestPoint. Then Proton started the bottom of the 2nd with a bunch of base hits followed by 4 consecutive home runs in the bottom of the 2nd to go up 16-7 as pitcher Andrew Vitcak hit a double and home run in the inning. Then when WestPoint zeroed in the top of the 3rd and Proton’s Tyler Storey hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 4th it was suddenly a 20 run mercy rule win 30-10. Dan Herren, Ryan Honeycutt, and Storey were each on base 4-4 and Proton out homered WestPoint 11-3. So WestPoint finished tied for 7th.

#11 Chick-fil-A/Shore OL/LS/Skyren/BAF (VA-AA)

vs

#4 Juno Athletics / LSR (NJ-Major)

MWS Game #24 – Legendz vs Chick-fil-a condensed game link

In the 2nd game of the day it was surprise team Chick-fil-a scoring 9 runs in the bottom of the 5th playing small ball to tie their game with Legendz 13-13. Then solo home runs by Matt Brady, Tre Porter, and Steve Edwards gave CFA a 16-14 lead in the bottom of the 6th and two nice plays by CFA 3rd baseman Jacob Clifton in the top of the 7th shut down Legendz for a nice CFA come from behind win. Chick-fil-a out homered Legendz 8-4 and Tre Porter and Cody Collins were perfect on base in the win. So Legendz finished tied for 7th.

Game #25  Recap – 11:30 AM

#5 Proton/Str8play/Rebel (CA-Major)

vs

#3 ATARAXIS/SONNYS/JBLNEWBREEDKOVALBAF (MD-AA)

MWS Game #25 – Proton vs Ataraxis condensed game link

After Ataraxis jumped out to a 6-1 lead on a Marc Wik 2 run homer in the bottom of the 1st inning, it was all Proton the rest of the way as they scored 15 in the top of the 2nd, 8 in the top of the 3rd, and 12 in the top of the 5th to win 41-18. The wind shifted out during this game and Proton out homered Ataraxis 18-6 as Ryan Harvey went 5-6 with 4 HR and 10 RBI. So Ataraxis finished tied for 5th.

Game #26  Recap – 1:30 PM

#11 Chick-fil-A/Shore OL/LS/Skyren/BAF (VA-AA)

vs

#4 Juno Athletics / LSR (NJ-Major)

MWS Game #26 – Chick-fil-a vs Juno Athletics condensed game link

Matt Brady got the scoring started for Chick-fil-a with a home run in the top of the 1st inning against Juno. But it was all Juno the rest of the game as they took advantage of the wind blowing out – out homering CFA 16-2 and scoring 22 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to leave CFA on the field 37-5. Matt Valencia was 3-4 with 3 HR and 8 RBI in the win. So Chick-fil-a finished tied for 5th.

Game #28  Recap – 3:00 PM

#5 Proton/Str8play/Rebel (CA-Major)

vs

#4 Juno Athletics / LSR (NJ-Major)

MWS Game #28 – Proton vs Juno Athletics condensed game link

The 4th place game with the wind blowing straight out was a slugfest where the two Major teams, Proton & Juno, combined for more than 100 runs. Proton scored 9 runs in the top of the 1st inning before they made an out. Juno answered with 16 runs (11 before the 1st out). In the top of the 2nd Chad Erickson hit a grand slam that gave Proton a 17-16 lead. At the end of the top of the 2nd inning some words between managers down the 3rd base line led to a benches clearing shoving match where 4 players and the 2 managers were ejected. In the 3rd inning Erickson hit another 3 run homer and in the 5th he robbed a homer to end the inning as Proton escaped with a 57-47 win. Proton out homered Juno 31-22 as Ryan Harvey went 6-8 with 5 HR and 8 RBI and Tyler Storey went 7-8 with 4 HR and 8 RBI. So Juno Athletics finished 4th.

Game #29  Recap – 5:00 PM

#5 Proton/Str8play/Rebel (CA-Major)

vs

#2 Resmondo-SIS-Skoni-StubTerm-RDD-S&S (FL-Major)

MWS Game #30 – Loser’s Final – Proton vs Resmondo condensed game link

With the wind still blowing straight out and nightfall hitting Viera, Florida, the loser’s bracket finals began. Both Resmondo and Proton made some good plays defensively early on and both teams scored at least 3 runs in every inning thru 4 and a half innings. Then in the bottom of the 4th Resmondo unloaded for 14 runs on 7 homers including 2 BOMBS by Bradley Jones to go up 25-17, but they did leave the bases loaded. Proton impressively answered with 15 runs on 8 home runs including 2 by Ryan Harvey to go up 32-25, but they made 2 straight outs to end the inning. Proton had a 40-38 lead going into the bottom of the 7th where Resmondo’s Bubba Mack hit a one out solo homer. Then Steele Lewis hit a single before Cory Briggs (who was clutch all night) hit a 2 run walk off homer to survive and advance 41-40. Briggs was 6-6 with 3 HR in the game. So Proton finished 3rd.

Harvey above and Acevedo below, each hit 5 HR for Proton in the close loss to Resmondo.

Game #30 Championship Game Recap – 7:00 PM

#2 Resmondo-SIS-Skoni-StubTerm-RDD-S&S (FL-Major)

vs

#1 RoofX/Thunder/BD/CE/Chosen/RF/Pure (IN-Major)

MWS Game #30 – Championship – Resmondo vs RoofX condensed game link

In the championship game a fresh RoofX team let a popup fall in the top of the 2nd that led to 7 Resmondo runs and a 9-3 lead. Walks also hurt RoofX throughout the game and Conference MVP Jeremy Fry pulled up lame with a hamstring injury that took the wind out of the RoofX sails. In the bottom of the 3rd Resmondo pitcher Travis Clark added to the RoofX woes when he got a strikeout looking. Then when RoofX put up a zero in the bottom of the 4th on two weak popouts, Resmondo grabbed the momentum by scoring 17 runs on 10 home runs as they chased the starting pitcher Austyn Dawe off the mound. And they weren’t just your average homer’s. Pearson’s (KP23) went 476 feet clearing the trees in left center. Yates hit one to the very back of Yate’s Yardhouse. And Bubba Mack’s homer cleared the video board in left field. RoofX needing 9 runs in the bottom of the 5th to extend the game, only came up with 2 and Resmondo won 36-15 forcing the “if” game. Travis Clark, KP23, and Heath Barnes all reached base safely 5 times in the game as Resmondo out homered RoofX 22-6. It became painfully obvious that Resmondo was locked in on hitting home runs down the line where the fence is 325 feet while the RoofX players seemed to be trying for left center where it was 365 feet and ended up with many fly outs. Credit Travis Clark for the great pitching also in these championship games.

Game #31 “IF” Game Recap – 9:00 PM

#2 Resmondo-SIS-Skoni-StubTerm-RDD-S&S (FL-Major)

vs

#1 RoofX/Thunder/BD/CE/Chosen/RF/Pure (IN-Major)

MWS Game #31 – IF Game – Resmondo vs RoofX condensed game link

The ‘if’ game began late Saturday night with the wind continuing to gust straight out. Jeremy Fry with his bad hamstring continued to play and they went again with Austyn Dawe at pitcher over their regular season starter Kyle Center who had something like a 12-2 record vs Resmondo over the past two years. Evidently they were trying to have more power in the lineup. Resmondo continued to pull their home runs down the line as RoofX continued to try and hit them to left center and Resmondo slowly pulled away to a 35-23 lead after 5 innings with relief pitcher Kyle Center hitting a 1 out triple in the bottom of the 5th to avoid the run rule. Resmondo pitcher Travis Clark also managed to get a strikeout looking in the 3rd and they had an outfield assist to end the bottom of the 6th, so RoofX was not playing mistake free softball. With the pro-RoofX crowd waiting for their offense to put up a double digit inning, that inning never came, and RoofX scored just 1 run in the bottom of the 6th and zeroed in the bottom of the 7th, as Travis Clark shut down yet another Major team in the late innings to preserve Resmondo’s 3rd Major World Series crown in a row and 5th in the last 6 years 36-24!!! Tournament MVP Bradley Jones was 6-6 with 3 HR in the final game and Kyle Pearson, Tyler Marshburn, and Steele Lewis all went 5-6. Resmondo out homered RoofX 22-9 in the game. Congratulations to Resmondo, their sponsors, managerial staff, and players on an impressive night of softball where they scored 113 runs in 3 games to win it…AGAIN! This was main sponsor Travis Resmondo’s 16th Major World Series Championship!
