Game #27 Recap – 8:00 AM

#4 Sonny’s/Worsham/RedAthlete/Hamak (WY-Major)

vs

#1 Resmondo/All American/Restoration/O (FL-Major)

Still deep in the loser’s bracket, Sonny’s began their game against Resmondo scoring 3 runs on 2 home runs in the top of the 1st inning.  Resmondo answered by hitting 7 straight home runs in the bottom of the 1st off of Sonny’s pitcher Bill Pinkham.  After 9 runs were scored, Sonny’s went to relief pitcher Dan “Dirty” Sanchez but that did not help as Resmondo went “off” for 26 runs on 12 home runs in the inning.  In the top of the 2nd a stunned Sonny’s went down in order 1-2-3.  Resmondo’s offense is their best defense at times.  In the bottom of the 3rd Resmondo’s Jason Matusik went over the batters eye in center field to make it 30-4.  During the broadcast on the livestream Proton manager Danny Hakker could be quoted saying “We always looking for production. Physical errors will happen, mental errors we will talk about and correct, effort errors we will not tolerate.”  Resmondo went on to win easily 30-7 in 4 innings.

Game #28 Recap – 10:00 AM

#6 JBL Roofin/Pauer Sports (OH-AA)

vs

#7 Juno Athletics (NJ-Major)

In the 2nd game of the day Juno Athletics outfielder Brandon Jackson robbed a JBL home run in the bottom of the 1st with JBL up 7-5.  In the top of the 3rd JBL turned a double play to hold Juno to 2 runs and then JBL went down in order 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 3rd inning up 18-8.  In the top of the 4th Juno’s Chad Mullins went over the batters eye in center field and Juno scored 6.  In the top of the 6th Matt Mosel hit a 1 out pinch hit single and Juno batted around scoring 17 runs and hitting 4 homers in a row at one point.  JBL answered in the bottom of the 5th scoring 9 runs to tie the game at 31-31.  In the top of the 4th Juno scored 3 on 4 consecutive extra base hits with 2 outs but JBL’s Brock Frentzel hit a 1 out bases loaded triple to give JBL a 36-34 lead in the bottom of the 6th.  In the top of the 7th Juno’s Brandon Jackson and Ben Dunn homered then 3 straight grounders ended the half inning with Juno up 37-36.  In the bottom of the 7th needing 1 to tie and 2 to advance, Adam Kaminski walked, Brian McBryde tripled, and Stevie Hendrickson won the game on a walk off single 38-37.  JBL took advantage of 12 walks in the game as the bottom of the JBL order was on base 10-12 with 8 runs scored!

Game #29 Recap – 12:00 PM

#2 RoofX/BadDraw/CE/Pure/Envy (IN-Major)

vs

#1 Resmondo/All American/Restoration/O (FL-Major)

RoofX squared off with Resmondo in a 5th place game for the 3rd game of Saturday.  RoofX scored 6 on 3 in the top of the 1st inning when Tyler Ervine hit a 3 run homer but then they made 3 straight outs?  In the bottom of the 1st Resmondo’s Kyle Pearson hit a 2 run homer over batters eye and they scored 3 on 1 as RoofX shortstop Logan Rogers made a diving play in the 5-6 hole to end inning.  The early innings were marked by lots of home runs as Ervine and Lambright hit 2 run shots in the 2nd and RoofX scored 9 on 3 in the top of the 3rd inning taking advantage of 3 walks and using the wind to hit backside homers.  In the bottom of the 2nd Resmondo’s Kevin Bazat hit a 3 run homer and Resmondo went on to hit 4 straight homers at one point scoring 8 on 7.  You can’t defend a ball over the fence!  Resmondo only scored 11 in the bottom of the 3rd and put up a zero in the bottom of the 4th.  But RoofX did not take advantage of the Resmondo offensive lull and only put up 2 in the 4th, 1 in the 5th because of a great catch by Bradley Jones in foul territory, and 4 in the 6th when Kyle Miller got a pinch hit and Jeremy Fry hit a big 3 run homer for a 26-14 lead.  In the bottom of the 6th the Resmondo offense came back to life as they scored 9 runs on 7 homers including 4 in a row with 2 outs to pull within 26-23.  In the top of the 7th, RoofX knew they had to put up a crooked number because Resmondo had already won a number of games in their last at bat.  Joey Miller singled but then they made 3 straight outs and put up the dreaded ZERO.  In the bottom of the 7th Resmondo hit a double, a double, homer, and a homer to win the game 27-26.  There were no double digit innings in the game.  Tyler Marshburn, Kyle Pearson, and Travis Clark each hit 3 home runs.  And the decision to put Bradley Jones in right field may have won the game.

Bradley Jones makes a spectacular catch!

Game #30 Recap –  2:00 PM

#8 I-57 Roofing/Beechy’s/Royce Geo/SA (IL-A)

vs

#6 JBL Roofin/Pauer Sports (OH-AA)

In the other 5th place game it was two ‘AA’ teams squaring off.  JBL after their energy draining win over Juno, put up consecutive zero’s to start the game, 6 straight outs in fact, while I-57 scratched out 7 runs in the first 3 innings on extra base hits.  In the bottom of the 3rd JBL’s Adam Ussery broke up the perfect game with a base hit but JBL really didn’t score until an 8 run bottom of the 4th to make it 9-9 when Brock Frentzel hit the first home run of the game and Laser Dave Johnson hit a 2 out 2 run double.  In the top of the 5th I-57 had 4 straight hits to start the inning and they scored 4 to go up 13-9.  Both teams made some spectacular plays on the fence to hold each other in check, and after I-57 put up a zero in the top of the 7th, JBL trailed by 3 with their last chance looming.  I57’s Adam Harrington made another great play on the fence to start the inning then Brock Frentzel and Chris Anninos hit back to back homers to pull to within 1 run.  But with 2 on they made the final out and I-57 won 15-14.  Mitch Carriger the pitcher was 4-4 with their only home run of the game for I-57.

Adam Harrington with a game saving catch in the top of the 7th.

Game #32 Recap – 4:00 PM

#8 I-57 Roofing/Beechy’s/Royce Geo/SA (IL-A)

vs

#1 Resmondo/All American/Restoration/O (FL-Major)

The 4th place game was played Saturday afternoon and Resmondo was out to get revenge on I-57 Roofing for the game earlier in the week that put Resmondo DEEP in the loser’s bracket.  I-57 was slow out of the gate only scoring 6 runs in the first 4 innings and Resmondo wasn’t much better scoring 10.  In the top of the 5th I-57 grabbed the lead hitting 5 straight home runs by Migues, Hoskins, Hathaway, Olivera, and Nick Perkins.  But in the bottom of the 5th Resmondo went off for 16 runs to go up 25-12 and they almost left I-57 on the field.  In the top of the 6th I-57’s magical week of softball continued as they put up one of the most dramatic innings in Major World Series history.  Down 12, they scored 18 runs, 13 of them with 2 outs to take an unlikely 30-25 lead as Mitch Carriger hit a clutch grand slam, and they had 13 base runners in a row with two outs and only 1 was a walk and only 1 was a homer!  In the bottom of the 6th Resmondo scored on a 2 run homer by Phil Matte and a 2 out solo homer by Cory Briggs to pull to within 2.  In the top of the 7th Travis Clark who had just shut out RoofX in the top of the 7th, did it again, getting I-57 to go down in order 1-2-3 and it was the top of their order.  They got the last out on a very controversial challenge overturn at 1st base pictured below.  In the bottom of the 7th needing 2 to tie and 3 to win, Pearson doubled, Connell singled, Bradley Jones singled and was thrown out trying to take 2nd.  Everett Williams was walked, Phil Matte doubled with one out and tied the game, Travis Clark was walked, and Bubba Mack hit it off the left field wall with the bases loaded to win the game 31-30!

In my opinion the glove does not close or move before the foot hits the base.  Whether you think he was safe or out, it was too close to overturn in my opinion.

Game #33 Recap – 6:00 PM

#3 Nitro/Beloli/Ataraxis/SBT/SOL/BAF/K (MD-AA)

vs

#1 Resmondo/All American/Restoration/O (FL-Major)

In the loser’s bracket finals Cory Briggs for Resmondo made a nice catch on the fence to hold Nitro Circus to zero in the top of the 1st and Resmondo used home runs to take leads of 7-0, 11-2, and 16-4.  In the top of the 4th Chris Greinert hit a grand slam to lead Nitro to 8 runs and a 12-16 deficit.  In the top of the 5th Greinert hit a long 3 run homer, a John Williams a 2 run shot, and a Jordan Robinson solo, to give Nitro Circus the lead 19-18!  In the bottom of the 5th Resmondo made 2 quick outs and then scored an impressive 12 runs as Bubba Mack, Connell, Buddy Wolf, Jason Matusik, and Bubba again all homered to put them up 30-19.  In the bottom of the 6th after Resmondo shut down Nitro Circus, they put up 4 more on 3 homers by Marshburn, Pearson, and Wolf to leave Nitro Circus on the field 34-19, out homering them 14-7.

Cabot Van Tils glove goes over the fence with the ball in it.

Game #34 Recap – 8:00 PM

#4 Str8play/Rebel/LA Empire/CHAD (CA-AA)

vs

#1 Resmondo/All American/Restoration/O (FL-Major)

The championship started after dark on Saturday night in front of a nice crowd.  Str8play was the undefeated team and Resmondo had to try and beat them twice after winning 5 straight in the loser’s bracket including 2 games in their last at bat.  Both teams had some low scoring innings early on and Resmondo led 5-4 after 2 complete innings.  Str8play then got a 2 run homer from Jeff Roxby to start the inning then scored 6 more after the 2nd out as Joey Capparelli, Dan Herren, and Brandon Streets all homered. In the bottom of the 3rd Resmondo got home runs from Greg Connell and Bradley Jones to score 4 runs and pull to within 12-9.  In the top of the 3rd Str8play scored 3 runs on a pair of triples by Tyler Dickens and Brian Dezertn to go up 15-9 but Resmondo went on an 11 home run barrage and scored 15 runs to go up 24-15.  Str8play out scored Resmondo 8-6 in the 5th and 6th innings but trailed 28-23 going to the 7th as Str8play relief pitcher Jacob Neal did a nice job in relief of Josh Jones.  In the top of the 7th Str8play reached down deep to score 10 runs on 4 homers to take a 33-30 lead, scoring the last 5 runs with 2 outs as Chad Erickson hit a homer to tie it and Brian Dezern went over the center field fence for the lead!  With their backs against the wall again, Resmondo needed 3 to tie and 4 to win, they got a game tying 3 run homer by Greg Connell with no outs, and a walk off 2 out 2 run homer from Travis Clark to win the game 35-33.  It was their 3rd 7th inning win of the day!  Greg Connell was 6-6 with 5 homers in the victory.

Game #35 Recap – 10:00 PM

#4 Str8play/Rebel/LA Empire/CHAD (CA-AA)

vs

#1 Resmondo/All American/Restoration/O (FL-Major)

So it all came down to a late night “if” game as the temperatures cooled off.  Str8play started by scoring 4 on no homers in the top of the 1st.  Resmondo then put on a home run hitting clinic scoring 15 runs on 7 homers by Pearson, Jones, Matte, Mack, and Pearson again.  The homers by Pearson, Jones, and Matte were BOMBS!  In the top of the 2nd Brandon Streets hit a 3 run homer but Resmondo shortstop Tyler Marshburn made a spectacular catch reaching into the stands to end the inning.  In the bottom of the 2nd relief pitcher Jacob Neal shut out Resmondo and Str8play used the momentum to score 11 runs in the top of the 3rd on home runs by Brandon Streets and Brian Dezern.  In the bottom of the 3rd Resmondo refocused, reached down deep after playing 12 hours of softball, and scored 18 runs, a bunch of them after a nasty knuckle liner that was playable but missed in left field which would have been the 3rd out.  From there Str8play crawled back into the game and played some nice defense to hold Resmondo in check and they entered the top of the 7th down 41-35.  But Travis Clarks pitching in the late innings held true again and Resmondo held Str8play to just 2 runs and won the game and the WORLD SERIES 41-37, out homering Str8play 21-11.  MVP Greg Connell was 6-7 in the final game.  It was Resmondo’s 2nd Major World Series win in the last two years.  Congratulations to the entire team and sponsorship group!

Greg Connell was MVP
