Day #3 – 2024 USSSA Major World Series
Friday, October 11th
The USSSA Major World Series continued on a very dry Friday that was sunny and pleasant after Hurricane Milton had gone through 2 days earlier and sucked all of the moisture out into the Atlantic ocean. The semifinals and winner’s final played out on Friday and a big chunk of the loser’s bracket. In the loser’s bracket at 8 am Dirty Vegas got a Ryan Tomasi 3 run homer with 2 outs to score 10 in the top of the 1st inning vs Westpoint and went on to win 25-6. Jared Hunt and Jeff Fairchild each driving in 6 runs. NFM Lending scored 5 on 3 home runs in the top of the 1st against Legendz but Legendz Jason Branch hit a home run off the top of the scoreboard as they answered with 10 on 2 to go up 10-6. In the bottom of the 4th Legendz added 14 more runs on 4 homers (3 in a row at one point) and Legendz went on to beat NFM Lending 28-20. Classic Glass overcame Bay Area Legends player/sponsor Joel Gonzalez’s 3-4, 2 HR, 6 RBI performance to win 21-17 out homering Bay Area 6-5 as Scott Hartling went 4-5 with 3 HR and 8 RBI in the victory. LSR advanced passed Primetime who forfeited. Dirty Vegas continued their winning ways with a 37-30 shootout win over Cheap Suits when DV scored 14 in the top of the 5th. Nick Day was 7-7, Jared Hunt 6-7 with 4 HR and 9 RBI and Steve Paramore 6-7 with 3 HR in the win. Sports Reach hung on to beat Legendz 21-19 as Jason Branch hit a 3 run homer for Legendz in the top of the 7th to draw close. It may have been the last at bat of Jason’s Hall of Fame career. He went 5-5 with a homer and 6 RBI in the loss. Travis Houseman went 4-5 with 3 HR in the win. The 3rd round of the loser’s bracket at 3 pm Friday featured a refocused Resmondo team crushing a tired Dirty Vegas team 36-6 as they scored 11 on 6 in the 1st, 15 on 6 in the 2nd, and 10 on 3 without making in out in the bottom of the 3rd to win by the run rule. Buddy Wolf was 4-4 with 4 HR and 12 RBI in the win. Sonny’s locked in a high scoring game with Classic Glass trailed 19-16 going into the 4th where they held Classic Glass scoreless and separated with a 10 run bottom of the 4th followed by an 11 run bottom of the 5th to win by the run rule 37-20. Sonny’s was led by Jeremy Yates and Steele Lewis who were both 5-5. Lewis had 4 homers and a triple and drove in 8 as they out homered Classic Glass 20-4. At 5 PM Sports Reach jumped on JBL Roofing scoring 12 runs in the top of the 1st on 9 doubles and triples. But JBL scored in every inning including 10 in the bottom of the 6th to take a 31-26 lead and held on to win without having to bat in the bottom of the 7th 31-30. JBL was led by Orlando Castillo 5-5 and John Radich and Mike Williams who each had 6 RBI. And in the final loser’s bracket game of the day a depleted LSR team powered their way to a 16-7 lead on Juno Athletics before Juno made a comeback in the bottom of the 6th. In that inning Juno got home runs from Andrew Collins and Ryan Harvey and then with 2 outs they scored 12 more runs on 5 homers and held on to win 29-23. Joe Boland was 5-5 in the win. The winner’s semifinals and winner’s final were also played on Friday and those games are detailed below.

#8 I-57 Roofing/Beechy’s/Royce Geo/SA (IL-A)
vs
#4 Str8play/Rebel/LA Empire/Chad (CA-AA)
As the winner’s bracket on Day #3 began the ‘A’ and ‘AA’ teams had an optimistic feeling as 3 of the 4 Major teams were in the loser’s bracket including the favorite and #1 seeded Resmondo. In the 1st semifinal Str8play got off to a good start holding I-57 Roofing to zero runs in the top of the 1st and they jumped out to an 8-0 lead on a homer by lead off hitter Joey Capparelli who hit one off the batter’s eye in center field, Bryan Dezern who hit a 3 run shot, and Mike Nino who hit a solo. Nino was also leading the infield defense as Str8play held I-57 to just 3 runs total in the game. In the bottom of the 2nd Capparelli, Daniel Herren, and Brandon Streets hit back to back to back home runs and Dickens and Dezern hit solo’s to go up 14-1. In the bottom of the 3rd Str8play added 7 more on homers by Streets, Anthony Acevedo, and Chad Erickson and won by the run rule in the bottom of the 4th 23-3 out homering I-57 11-0. Semifinal Game #26 Recap – 1:00 PM
#3 Nitro Circus/Beloli/Ataraxis/SBT/SOL/BAF/K (MD-AA)
vs
#2 RoofX/BadDraw/CE/Pure/Envy (IN-Major)
In semifinal #2 at 1 PM Nitro Circus played #2 seed RoofX who appeared to be the favorite with all of the other Major teams in the loser’s bracket. In the top of the 1st Nitro Circus scratched across a run on a misplayed ball in the outfield. In the bottom of the 1st Tyler Ervine grabbed RoofX the lead on a 2 run homer using the 13 mph wind blowing out to right field but they couldn’t make Nitro pay for 2 walks they issued. In the top of the 2nd Nitro’s Fred Lattimore hit one off the top of the battter’s eye to tie the game at 2-2 after RoofX right fielder Arlis Miller made a great catch on the fence. In the bottom of the 2nd Faron Fry and Brandon Yoder hit back to back home runs to start the inning, and Logan Rogers a 2 run shot but they scored just 5 after stranding 2 runners. In the top of the 3rd John Williams and Jason Martel homered to pull Nitro to withing 1 run 7-6 but left the bases loaded. In the bottom of the 3rd Ryan Mcclanahan hit a 2 run double to get the RoofX scoring started. Then Rogers, Ervine, and Patrick Center hit multi run homer’s to score 10 and go up 17-6. In the top of the 4th the fans wondered if Nitro might be done but they answered in a big way getting home runs from Cabot Van Til, Lattimore, Filip Washington, John Williams, and Josh Cardwell to score 16 runs even though RoofX right fielder Arlis Miller robbed another home run. In the bottom of the 4th down 22-17, RoofX scored 4 as Logan Rogers hit his 3rd homer of the game and Tyler Ervine hit a 3 run shot. But in the top of the 5th Nitro Circus popped off again scoring 14 runs on 5 homer’s sparked by Cody Collins pinch hit 3 run shot to go up 36-21. In the bottom of the 5th needing a run to extend the game, Roofx put up a zero and lost 36-21. The untold story of the game was Nitro Circus drawing 18 walks to RoofX’s 13. Nitro out homered RoofX 14-10 in the game and Washington, Greinert, Kirsten, Martel, Cardwell, and Lattimore were all on base 5 times and John Williams was on base 6-6.
Winner’s Final Game #31 Recap – 9:00 PM
#4 Str8play/Rebel/LA Empire/Chad (CA-AA)
vs
#3 Nitro Circus/Beloli/Ataraxis/SBT/SOL/BAF/K (MD-AA)
The winner’s final at 9 pm Friday night was played in perfect weather and was a rematch between the ‘AA’ World finalists Str8play and Nitro Circus. Str8play would still have Nitro’s number. After a slow start where Joey Capp hit a no doubter to start the game and Str8play, it was Nitro who led 3-1 after one complete inning. Str8play though exploded in the top of the 2nd for 16 runs, held Nitro scoreless in the bottom of the 2nd on a great play by shortstop Tyler Dickens and a diving catch by Cabot Van Til, and then scored 10 more runs in the top of the 4th to win 27-5. Str8play out homered Nitro 14-4 in the game and Nitro had just 5 hits as the pitching of Josh Jones and the defense shut them down. Joey Capp and Tyler Dickens each hit 3 HR and Mike Nino was 4-4 in the win.
