Day #1 – 2024 USSSA Major World Series

Tuesday, October 8, 2024

The 54th annual USSSA Major World Series began on Tuesday morning October 8th at 11 AM at the Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida.  Due to the incoming Hurricane Milton a a number of teams that were still in Florida after playing the ‘AA’ Worlds agreed to start the tournament early knowing the Hurricane would delay games mid week.  The Major World Series was an 18 team double elimination tournament played over 5 days in cooler temperatures with some rain on Tuesday and Wednesday and the hurricane cancelled all games on Thursday.  It was windy to start the tournament causing lots of walks.  The most prestigious tournament in slow pitch softball used a good batch of the Dudley Stadium ZN balls, the all turf field dimensions were 325-365-385-365-325, and it was unlimited home runs.  The higher seeded team in each game was automatically made the home team based on the seasons long Conference points standings.
