Day #1 – 2024 USSSA Major World Series

The 55th annual USSSA Major World Series began on Wednesday morning October 8th at 9 AM at the Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida. This years Major World Series was a 16 team double elimination tournament played over 4 days with temperatures between 72 and 85 degrees with some serious on and off rain storms. For the first 3 days of the tournament the wind blew in its traditional direction across the field to the right field corner at 8 to 18 mph. The most prestigious tournament in slow pitch softball used a fair batch of the Dudley Stadium ZN balls, the all turf field dimensions were 325-365-385-365-325, and they used unlimited home runs. The higher seeded team in each game was automatically made the home team based on the seasons long Conference points standings.

MWS Game #7 – Sports Reach vs Bay Area Legends condensed game link
Sports Reach seemingly hung over from their late Monday – early Tuesday win at the USSSA ‘AA’ Worlds put up zeros in the first two innings. Meanwhile Bay Area Legends scored 5 runs on 5 hits and a walk in the bottom of the 1st and Misael Tavarez hit the first home run of the tournament in the bottom of the 2nd to go up 10-0. In the top of the 4th Tavarez playing 3rd base made a nice diving stop holding Sports Reach to 1 run. In the top of the 5th Sports Reach, down 15-2, showed some life scoring 11 runs, but Bay Area after making 2 outs to start the bottom of the 5th, ended up scoring 5 runs on extra base hits and a Justin Mucciarelli single to go up 20-13 and they won 24-14. Bay Area scored in every inning but was out homered 6-3.

After shutting out Cheap Suits in the top of the 1st, I-57 Roofing scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st as Zane Migues got the scoring started with a 2 run homer. It was all I-57 the rest of the way as they won in a mercy rule shortened 20 run victory 27-7 in 4 innings. “Lazer” Dave Johnson the I-57 leadoff hitter was 4-4 on base with a grand slam in the win.

MWS Game #1 – Chick-fil-a vs WestPoint condensed game link
Walks led to a Jacob Clifton grand slam in the top of the 1st as Chick-fil-a jumped out to a 4-0 lead on fellow ‘AA’ team WestPoint in the top of the 1st. But a double play ended the inning. In the bottom of the 1st CFA left fielder Justin Lutheran made a sliding catch to hold WestPoint scoreless. In the top of the 3rd Cody Collins and Bradley Scott hit 2 out homers to put CFA up 10-3. WestPoint was issuing to many walks in the strong cross wind. It was a high scoring game and went 7 innings, but when WestPoint went down in order in the bottom of the 5th, CFA went up 30-13 going into the bottom of the 7th where WestPoint scored 10 to make it respectable but CFA had pulled off the upset 30-23. A much needed win after a tough 2025 season for Chick-fil-a. Travis Tucker the lead off hitter for CFA hit for the cycle.

After a scoreless one and a half innings Proton, the first Major team to take the field, went off for 14 runs on homers by Brandon Streets, Joey Capparelli, Ryan Harvey, and Ryan Honeycutt. A depleted BeHappy team who had to pick up ‘C’ players to fill out the roster finally scored in the top of the 3rd on a homer by Blake Lively. But needing a run to avoid the mercy rule in the top of the 4th, BeHappy went down in order 1-2-3 and Proton had a good warmup game win 23-3. Honeycutt was 4-4 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in the win. BeHappy had just 4 hits in the game.

MWS Game #6 – Legendz vs Juno condensed game link
Legendz, the 2025 USSSA ‘A’ World Champs gave the Juno Athletics Major team all they could handle in this late afternoon game. But it was Juno who got off to a hot start scoring 10 in the bottom of the 1st, 12 in the bottom of the 2nd, and they scored 9 in the bottom of the 3rd including hitting 5 straight homers at one point and then a grand slam by Michal Rainer to go up 31-12. But Legendz avoided the run rules and scored 13 in the top of the 6th to take the lead 38-33 when pitcher Dan Olvera had a couple of clutch hits! But Legendz put up a zero in the top of the 7th and dropped a fairly easy popup in foul territory behind 1st base in the bottom of the 7th, and Juno needing 4 to tie and 5 to win, got a Josh Riley double, a John Williams 2 run homer, a Buddy Wolf single, a Mason Farmer 2 run homer to tie, and Matt Valencia walked it off with a 2 run 2 out base hit to win 39-38! Riley was 6-7 with 4 HR in the win and Juno out homered Legendz 19 to 11.

MWS Game #4 – Primetime vs Resmondo condensed game link
At 5:45 PM the #2 seed and tournament favorite Resmondo played Primetime. This one only lasted 3 and a half innings although Primetime led 5-4 after 1 complete inning. Resmondo scored 19 in the bottom of the 2nd and 6 more in the 3rd and won by the run rule 29-8, out homering Primetime 17-5. Jeremy Yates led the way 4-4 with 2 HR.

At 7:30 PM it was #1 seeded RoofX taking on the #16 seed SNI. In the bottom of the 1st after RoofX tied the game 5-5 on a flurry of home runs, they flew out 3 straight times to end the inning as Brian Bullock in center field for SNI made a nice running catch. RoofX extended their lead to 20-11 hitting 4 straight home runs in the bottom of the 4th, but needing 2 runs with the bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the 5th they couldn’t finish it and the game went 7 innings with a bit of a lackluster 26-15 RoofX win. Jeremy Fry and Tyler Ervine were each on base 4-5 and for Ervine it was his first time playing since the Seattle Dual in June when he injured his foot.

In the nightcap Ataraxis right fielder Cabot Van Til robbed Craig Pellegrin’s home run in the top of the 2nd inning and Ataraxis hit 4 straight home runs in an 11 run bottom of the 2nd to go up 12-1 on Dirty Vegas. Josh Cardwell hit 2 home runs in that inning. The Ataraxis outfield played some great defense the whole game and needing 4 runs to mercy rule Dirty Vegas in the bottom of the 6th, they did so, winning 21-6 and out homering DV 7-2 in the game.
