Classic Glass takes on Competitive Edge in the Conference Championship game!

28 of the top men’s teams in the country played a double elimination tournament at the Indy Sports Park in Indianapolis, Indiana September 15-17 to crown this years Conference Champions.  Resmondo who won the regular season points looked to get back on track and the main field at the Indy Sports Park was a rectangular shaped baseball field with 335-390-395-335-295 field dimensions and they used the Dudley Stadium ZN ball.  Classic Glass/Easton (CA-AA) trailed in their 1st game to Epic by 15 runs and came back to win on a walk off by 3rd baseman Brady Stewart.  From there they went on a roll upsetting Sonny’s major team Friday night 53-41, then S&E ‘AA’ team 21-15 Saturday morning, MPT Rentals major team 28-13 Saturday afternoon, and the Competitive Edge major team 27-12 in the winner’s bracket finals.  After an early night and a lot of rest they returned to the Championship game on Sunday for 4 hours of grueling softball.  They lost the 1st game to Competitive Edge 27-12 and were trailing by 7 going into the top of the 7th of the “if” game 47-40.  They proceeded to bat around the lineup 3 times and scored a show field record 24 runs in the inning and went on to beat Competitive Edge 64-47 to win the Conference Championship and jump to 12th in the Conference points standings!  The top 18 in points trying to qualify for the USSSA Major World Series remained the same but the seeds shuffled around some with Resmondo still finishing 1st, Sonny’s 2nd, and Competitive Edge moved up to 3rd with MPT Rentals 4th.

Classic Glass infielder Blake Lively hits a crucial grand slam in the top of the 7th!

Women’s Conference Championship

LaFamiglia’s Caitlyn Stoner hits a walk off base hit with 2 outs to win the Conf Championship!

Conference Championships Results & Bracket Link

There were 16 teams in the women’s Conference Championship at the Indy Sports Park September 15-17, 2023.  Smash It/Derby Girls/Rawlings (WA-Major) the #1 team in the country went undefeated through the winner’s bracket knocking off LaFamiglia/Fat Angelo’s/GTL/Worth 23-12 in the winner’s bracket finals Saturday evening.  But LaFamiglia fought back on Sunday morning knocking off KHAOS/SNI/BaughFord/D1 (FL-Major) 12-1 in the loser’s final at 8 am then they beat Smash It 14-6 to force an “if” game.  In the final game they came from behind in the bottom of the 7th and used 2 intentional walks sandwiched between 3 straight 2 out hits to win in dramatic fashion on a Caitlyn Stoner walk off single 28-27!  Smash It/Incognito (MI-AA) was a promising 4th as the women head to USSSA Worlds in October in Viera, Florida.

Report by Melissa Pratt: Women’s Conference finished off their regular season in Indianapolis, Indiana this past weekend with Conference Championships. 16 Conference teams from 10 different states competed this weekend including: (5) Major, (2) AA, (5) A, and (4) B teams.

As most would expect, strong performances by both La Famiglia/Fat Angelo’s/GTL/Worth and Smash It/Derby Girls/Rawlings would put them into the “Queen” seat game. In the winner’s bracket final, Smash It/Derby Girls/Rawlings were impressive on both sides of the ball sending La Famiglia/Fat Angelo’s/GTL/Worth to the loser’s bracket final. But as we have seen before, La Famiglia/Fat Angelo’s/GTL/Worth did not take that loss lightly, they beat Khaos/SNI/Baughford/D1 to make it back to the ship for hopeful revenge. Games between La Famiglia and Derby Girls are always full of action and fun to watch. These women play with so much passion and it shows. La Famiglia would make it through the first game fairly easily to get them to the IF-game. The IF-game was one for the books. With several lead changes and great performances on both sides of the ball by either team, it was obvious it was going to come down to the last inning. La Famiglia/Fat Angelo’s/GTL/Worth double-dipped to take the conference championship title.

Since mid-June, 4 out of 8 conference tournaments have featured Smash It/Derby Girls/Rawlings and La Famiglia/Fat Angelo’s/GTL/Worth facing each other in the championship game… 6 out of those 8 championships have featured one or the other. Is this a pattern? Will we see something similar at women’s major world series? We will have to wait and find out.

One team that stood out this weekend was Khaos/SNI/Baughford/D1. They performed at a very high level, sending several major teams to the loser’s bracket or home including: Lady SNI/DeMarani/D1, Classic Glass/Nitro Circus/Rawlings, and Smash It/Incognito. Khaos went 4-2 on the weekend.

Smash It/Incognito also came out of conference championships with a 4-2 record. They were sent to the loser’s bracket by Smash It/Derby Girls/Rawlings in their 2nd game of the tournament and battled through 3 straight games before falling to Khaos in a tight game 10-9.

2nd Place – Smash It/Derby Girls/Rawlings (WA-Major)

3rd Place – KHAOS/SNI/BaughFord/D1 (FL-AA)
