Sin City Dual #1 Recap
The Sin City Classic kicked off the 2026 USSSA Conference season at Big League Dreams in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fourteen Conference teams from nine states made the trip, including four of the five Major teams and five ‘A’ squads, competing across two tournaments over the weekend. Local Nevada teams Forged (B) and Stay Humble (C) were also in the mix. Major team La Famiglia (PA) made their return after a year away, and Derby Girls (WA-M) came in as the defending champions of both tournaments from the 2025 dual.
The first tournament of the 2026 Women’s Conference season came down to a one-run championship game, setting the tone for what promises to be a competitive year. Top seeds Derby Girls/Smash It/Resmondo (WA-M) and Juno Athletics/LSR (NJ-M) earned byes into the second round, leaving the opening round largely uneventful with the exception of one key upset. Forged (NV-B) came out of the off-season swinging and sent Ascension/Complete Game/RDA/Berserk (OK-A) into the loser’s bracket early with a decisive 10-4 win.
The winner’s bracket saw most of the top seeds assert themselves, though the expected order saw one early disruption. JMI (OK-B) edged Incognito/Miken (MI-M), 14–13, in a close game that pushed the Major team into the elimination bracket.

From that point forward, the top seeds established control. Juno Athletics (vs. Forged) and Derby Girls (vs. Hype Sports FL-A) both showed early dominance and run-ruled their way into the third round. Advancing deeper into the bracket, Juno Athletics crushed JMI, 19-1, and Derby Girls defeated La Famiglia, 16-12, sending both winning teams into the winner’s bracket final match.

In the first meeting between the tournament’s top two teams, Derby Girls handed Juno Athletics their first loss, securing a 13–12 victory to advance to the championship. In the matchup, Derby Girls’ catcher, the 2025 Major World Series MVP Fiana Finau, led her team with three RBIs, and at the bottom of their order, Juno debuted conference rookie Makayla Seyller (CF) who tied lead-off hitter Dani Wayt with two RBIs. Neither team was able to create significant separation, but Derby Girls put up a big inning in the 4th, shifting the momentum and leaving Juno unable to close the gap.

The loser’s bracket was quickly scrambled by a mix of close finishes and lopsided scoreboards. Eat It (CA-A) narrowly eliminated Incognito, 14-13, scoring a decisive run in the top of the 7th, and Hype put together one of the strongest stretches of the elimination bracket beating Ascension, 12-3, and JMI, 19-6.
Forged continued their upset streak by eliminating Superior/Coastline Sportswear/H10T (CA-A) in a close 16-14 contest and dominating Eat It, 15-5, proving their earlier wins were no fluke. After an impressive run, Forged was eliminated by La Famiglia, 15-7, ending the weekend’s most notable underdog performance.

Juno Athletics then eliminated La Famiglia in a tight 15-13 battle to secure their rematch with Derby Girls in the championship. Unlike many games in the bracket that were decided early by run rule, this contest remained close throughout and served as the semifinal game. Juno split the game evenly between high scores and goose-eggs, but La Famiglia couldn’t match them despite Jessica Alvarado leading both teams with 6 RBIs and the team putting up seven runs in the top of the seventh.

In the Dual #1 Championship game, the highest-scoring game of the tournament, Derby Girls nearly replicated their winner’s final performance by securing back-to-back victories over Juno Athletics, 20-19. Tight defense on both sides kept the game close throughout, but Jordan Mittelsdorf’s clutch two RBI triple in the bottom of the 6th gave Derby Girls the lead they needed to close the game. With the win, Derby Girls successfully defended their 2025 Sin City title, establishing themselves as the early front-runner in the 2026 season.

Sin City Dual #2 Recap
Dual #2’s opening round also included key upsets, with Forged defeating Ascension, 14-12, and Incognito falling to the loser’s bracket again in the early rounds, this time Superior narrowly defeating them 14-13. Top seeds Derby Girls/Smash It/Resmondo and Juno Athletics/LSR again earned byes into the second round.
The second round featured the lowest-scoring game of the tournament, as La Famiglia defeated CPK, 1-0. SDLighting (CA-A) advanced with a 15-3 run-rule victory over Superior, but the bracket stabilized in the following round as the top seeds took control: Juno Athletics defeated La Famiglia decisively 13-4, and Derby Girls run-ruled SDLighting. In the Winner’s Final, Derby defeated Juno, 18-5, to advance to the championship without a loss.

In the elimination bracket Incognito recorded consecutive run-rule wins over Forged and Ascension before being eliminated by SDLighting in a 9–8 game—one of the few late-round matchups decided by a single run. Eat It (CA-A) eliminated Superior, 31–1, and Hype (FL-A) defeated Ascension, 13–3. Hype contributed another strong elimination performance, including a 16–6 run-rule win over Eat It, before being eliminated by La Famiglia, 14-7. La Famiglia advanced with their wins over Hype and SDLighting (16–4). In the Loser’s Final, Juno Athletics defeated La Famiglia, 23–3, to secure a rematch with Derby Girls in the championship.

The Dual #2 championship game opened up in the top of the first with Juno Athletics putting on an absolute show and taking off with a 10 run lead. Derby Girls started to chip away, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd, but couldn’t seem to find an answer for Juno’s performance on either side of the field. Melissa Rahrich, Sasha Killings, and Kristen Connell led the way for Juno knocking in 3 runs each, securing Juno’s 20-8 win and forcing the ‘if’ game for the title.
In the final game, Juno remained untouchable, scoring early and double-dipping Derby Girls for the Dual #2 championship title in a 10–5 win. Chelsea Davis, Kylee Studioso, and Karina Rocha led the way and were responsible for all but one of Juno’s 10 runs.
