Cheap Suits pitching to NFM Lending in the championship.
The men’s Golden State Major was played at the Big League Dreams park in Palm Springs, California June 7th and 8th in sweltering temperatures that reached 100+ degrees. The tournament began with 20 teams all of whom were from California, Arizona, or Nevada and they started play at 5 pm pacific time on Friday. There were only 3 teams from the Conference USSSA league and those 3 teams dominated the tournament. CutThroatSports/CourseyRlty/Soars a second year Conference ‘B’ team from California beat DynastyBrothers 32-17, Hitting Bombs 22-20, and then they upset NFM Lending 31-15 to make it to the winner’s bracket finals. In the lower half of the bracket Cheap Suits/Republic Realty/ESP a Conference ‘A’ team from California run ruled their way past Sply 38-6 led by Demario Boyd, Justice Aranda, Brandon Traylor, and Carlos Abrigo who were all on base 5-5 and Boyd hit 4 home runs and drove in 8. In their second game Cheap Suits run ruled Fatboy Apparel 34-1 when they scored 26 runs in the top of the 1st inning! Leadoff hitter Orlando Cano, rookie of the year candidate Matthew Valencia, Dale Swinford, and Carlos Abrigo were all on base 4-4. At 3:30 PM Saturday afternoon in the semifinals they kept the offense rolling beating Ha/Premier 38-11. Cano, Justice Aranda, Valencia, Traylor, and Swinford were all on base 5-5 in that win. Next was the winner’s final early Saturday evening where Cheap Suits mercy ruled CutThroatSports 33-7 in 4 innings as Juan Castenada and Nic Guillen were perfect on base and Brandon Traylor drove in 6 runs. Meanwhile in the loser’s bracket NFM Lending beat 1-Step Ahead 27-12, HA/Premier 42-17, and CutThroatSports 25-24 winning on a walk off homer by Richard Rollice to make it to the championship. In the finals late Saturday night NFM Lending beat Cheap Suits 35-33 to force the “if” necessary game where Cheap Suits got their revenge and won the game and the tournament 34-27, scoring 12 in the top of the 2nd and 11 in the top of the 4th. Cano, Aranda, MVP Valencia, and Abrigo were all on base 5-5 and Valencia hit 3 HR and drove in 9 runs. Cheap Suits out homered NFM Lending 12-9 in the final game. It was Cheap Suits first tournament win of the season and pushes them to 4th place in the points standings.

Derby Girls/OA/Miken/Easton/Worth (WA-Major) rolled through the 13 teams Golden State Major in Palm Springs, California undefeated. They allowed just 2.3 runs per game and knocked off MyAutoJack/BluePearl/Graham Sports (AZ-A) 14-3 in the winner’s bracket finals Saturday evening and again 19-4 in the championship game late Saturday night. It was Derby Girls 3rd tournament win of the season to go with Las Vegas to open the season and The Summit of Softball Major just a few weeks ago. The women continue their season in Columbus, Georgia June 14th.
