The Conference Championship tournament returns after a year off and will be held this weekend at the recently turfed Indy Sports Park in Indianapolis, Indiana. 28 of the top Conference men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams will battle it out double elimination style starting on Friday at 4:30 PM eastern time. I had to google the time zone as I originally thought it was central time. This is a difficult tournament to predict as most of the top teams often sit their normal starting pitcher so they don’t get hurt ahead of October’s World tournaments in Viera, Florida. But there is a lot on the line as teams try to make it into the top 18 (16 on the women’s side) and earn their berth to the Major World Series! 7 of the fields are 300 feet but the main field is a baseball field with very odd 335-390-395-335-295 dimensions and the main field has no lights so two of the quarterfinals, the semifinals, and the winner’s final of the men’s will be played during daylight on Saturday with the final 4 teams being brought back on Sunday. Women’s preview by Melissa Pratt: Women’s Conference will finish off their regular season in Indianapolis, Indiana this weekend with Conference Championships. Conference Championships will take place at Indy Sports Park, a family owned and operated facility that recently completed a 2.5-million-dollar renovation less than a year ago. Renovations include 8 diamonds of fully synthetic turf, brand new restrooms, updated concrete walkways, new bulbs for field lighting, updated concession stands, updated asphalt work, and new sod laid in certain areas. With field conditions being pristine and the weather predicted to be in the mid-upper 70s, this weekend is looking to be perfect circumstances for our Conference Championships to take place. The tournament is projected to start around 5:00pm Friday night and conclude Sunday. This year’s Conference Championships reflects a much better turnout on the women’s side compared to last year’s tournament which took place in Shawnee, KS. This weekend, we have 16 Conference teams from 10 different states participating: (5) Major, (2) AA, (5) A, and (4) B teams. In 2022, 8 teams participated, 7 being Conference teams.
