The 11th "Sin City" Classic Major kicks off the 17th season of the Nationwide Conference USSSA league with 40 men's teams and 19 women's teams at the Big League Dreams park in Las Vegas, Nevada! The tournament begins Friday, March 25th at 9:00 AM Pacific time. The tournament features 10 of the top teams in this years Conference USSSA and 3 of the 4 Major classed teams (Smash It, Resmondo, and MPT). In the past 10 years this tournament has not been won by a non major team on the men's side.
All games on all 6 fields will be streamed on USSSALive.com. The chat room will also be up on SoftballCenter.com to keep fans informed. Live streaming will continue through the championship game which is set for Sunday at 10:45 AM Pacific time. The fields have artificial turf infields and each field is modeled after the look and feel of a major league baseball stadium. Fenway is being used as the show field this year. The 2021 World Champion Resmondo who has won 3 of the last 4 USSSA Major World Series will be playing and they return most of their starters. They lost Josh Riley who was the Offensive MVP of the Conference last year and long time left handed power hitter Jeremy Yates but they picked up former Smash It shortstop Tyler Marshburn and former Dan Smith slugger Phil Matte. Resmondo will be missing their middle infielder Kevin Bazat due to offseason surgery and Brian Wegman retired but they will be led by pitcher Travis Clark. Resmondo will be challenged by the 2021 regular season Conference Champions Smash It Sports led by veteran pitcher Andy Purcell and defensive wizard Ryan Mcclanahan. The 3rd Major team that will be there is MPT Rentals/Juno based out of New Jersey and led by Ryan Harvey who leads the nation in home runs every year.
On the women's side there are 19 teams led by Smash It Derby Girls the only Major team and the first 3 ever 'AA' teams Classic Glass, NTL, and Smashit/SFK. 'AA' is a new division for the ever expanding women's program. Some of the best womens slowpitch of the year occurs at the Big League Dreams fields which are well suited for the women's game.
The weather looks warmer than usual and we could see 90 degrees. The home run rule in the Conference is Major vs Major games hit 16 HR per team. 'AA' and 'A' vs any class is 12 home runs per team. And 'B' and below vs 'B' or non conference vs non conference games hit 8 homers per team. There are usually some pretty big upsets in this event but when Sunday rolls around there are usually at least 2 Major teams still standing in the final 4.
I hope everyone has a great season and want to thank USSSA for their continued support of the Conference which is THE SHOWCASE of slowpitch softball. I want to thank the sponsors of these teams for all of the hard work, headaches, and stress it takes to put these teams on the field. Lets have a safe and competitive season and make great memories!
Last years "if" game came down to Ben Dunn robbing this home run to preserve the win for Smash It Sports over S&E.
