2022 Seattle Dual tournament report!

2022 Christan Dowling Derby Dual

Kent, Washington

July 28-31

Resmondo’s Kyle Pearson walks off Proton in the Dual #1 Championship 40-39

The 2022 USSSA Seattle Dual Major known as the Christan Dowling Derby Dual was played in Kent, Washington.  The men’s dual #1 started Thursday morning on 5 fields, 4 of them dirt infields with 300 foot fences, and one of them an all turf baseball field with a temp fence set at 300 feet.  There were 11 conference teams and 22 teams total.  Resmondo/SmashIt/All American/Menosse (FL-Major) rolled through the tournament beating Pro-Active Home Builders, Bay Area Legends/Vivid (CA-B), Bay Area Legends (CA-AA), and BTR (CA-B) all by the run rule scoring at least 30 runs in every game to get to the championship.  Meanwhile Proton/Legacy Gloves (AZ-AA) who lost 21-13 to BTR in the “Round of 8” knocked off Lund Mortgage (AZ-A), Classic Glass (CA-AA) by a run, Bay Area Legends, Str8Play/JPS (CA-B), and BTR to get to the championship Friday afternoon against Resmondo.  You can see the by the box score below for the championship where Proton grabbed an early lead but was shut down in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings and Resmondo won 21-11 as Resmondo out homered Proton 6-3.

Dual #2 began as Dual #1 was finishing up on Friday and the majority of the winner’s bracket was played on the field #1 baseball field with its 327-367-362-360-331 home run fence dimensions, unlimited home runs, 80 foot bases, and the Dudley Stadium ZN ball.  The top 8 seeds all advanced unscathed into the “Round of 8” where #1 seeded Resmondo beat Lund Mortgage 22-13.  Proton and Bay Area two AA teams advanced with Proton beating Bay Area 19-4 in the semifinals.  And in a big upset Str8Play beat Classic Glass 17-10 before Resmondo beat them 14-13 on a one out single by Argen Dodds in the bottom of the 7th.  In the winner’s final Saturday evening Resmondo separated from Proton by scoring 9 runs in the top of the 5th and went on to win 25-13 as Phil Matte, Bradley Jones, and Tyler Marshburn all collected 4 hits and Nic Santana had 5.  In the loser’s bracket Seminoles and Classic Glass made runs only to be beaten by Str8Play and then Proton dropped down Sunday morning and beat Str8Play 14-12 to get back to the championship game.  In that championship game as you can see below by the box score Proton grabbed a 39-27 lead by scoring 8 runs in the top of the 7th but Resmondo walked them down in the bottom of the 7th scoring 13 runs on just one out getting a Kevin Bazat single to tie it, then an intentional walk to Travis Clark to load the bases, and a walk off single by Kyle Pearson to win it in dramatic fashion!  The dual wins give Resmondo 4 tournament wins for the season (Vegas, Chattahoochee) and the 224 points earned for each win put them within striking distance of the Conference title but they will have to have big success at the Evansville, Indiana dual coming up August 11-14 for that to happen.  Bradley Jones and Argen Dodds each had an .814 on base percentage for the weekend with Dodds going 6-6 with 3 HR in that final game.
