Thursday Recap

Doesn’t matter which side of the fence your glove touches a home run, it doesn’t count towards the HR limit.

The 2026 Pocket City Dual at the Deaconness Sports Park in Evansville, Indiana was played in extreme heat and humidity. All 3 days temperatures reached into the 90’s with a “feels like” as high as “107”. The fields were all 300-305-315-305-300 with artificial turf infields and grass outfields. 21 of the 22 teams in the two double elimination tournaments were from the Conference USSSA and they were arguably the top 16 teams in the country. Dual #1 started on Thursday at 8 am on all 8 fields so it was very hard to follow and report on this tournament especially when only a couple of teams were using the live BallClubz scoring. Both tournaments used the Dudley Classic-M ball which Conference switched to back on June 1st for 300 foot fields. This ball was the China version and was temperature and more so humidity sensitive so home runs for the most part were earned during the day and very few teams used their home run limits.

“Play in” Games:

GREINERT – KOVAL – BAF (MD-A), missing 5 of their more notable players on their roster, played an entertaining game against fellow ‘A’ teams ACS/Easton from Florida. Both teams struggled to adjust to the ball as ACS center fielder Emilio Lovato caught 2 balls right on the center field fence in the first two innings. In the 2nd inning Greinert went up 7-3 on a big home run by pitcher Jacob Zachmann. ACS grabbed a 9-8 lead on Craig Pelligrin’s 2nd home run of the game, and Greinert got the lead back again on another Zachmann homer to go up 10-9 in the top of the 4th. By the end of the 4th inning though Greinert led 17-9. Then a light rain came and neither team could score in the rain for some reason until the bottom of the 6th and 7th innings when ACS mounted an unlikely comeback and walked down Greinert in the bottom of the 7th winning on a two out single by pitcher Gavin Tanner just out of the reach of Greinert 2nd baseman Josh Moore. Craig Pellegrin for ACS, playing against his old sponsor Greinert, was 4-4 with 3 HR, 6 RBI, and 4 runs scored in the win.

WestPoint (IN-AA) grinded out a 17-12 win over Great Ape Grips a non-conference ‘B’ team out of Georgia. Kyle Pearson (OG) and Brock Frentzel were each 4-4 in the win as WestPoint hit 6 home runs for the game.

Anarchy/Drawbridge/Selfmade (MI-A) who has been playing well since their run in Chicago beat Chop Shop/Prime Threadz/RFM/Toxon (IN-B) 29-13 in 6 innings as they scored at least 3 runs in every inning and out homered Chop Shop 11-7. Pitcher Kevin Miller was 3-4 with 3 HR and 7 RBI, while Adam Kaminski and center fielder Trevor MacDonald reached base safely 4 times each in the victory.

Primetime/Marucci/Ballhawk (GA-A) made quick work of Crown Athletics (IN-C) 25-5 in 4 innings. They held Crown scoreless until the top of the 4th inning. Primetime used 10 of their 12 home runs as leadoff hitter Rod Armour, Kyle Weseloh, and James Scott all went 3-3. Weseloh also hit 3 HR.

Envy/ThirtyFour7/Legendz/WeatherPro (OK-AA) who changed their primary sponsor from Legendz to Envy before the tournament, beat Tafn/GoSports/PrimeThreadz (MI-B) 27-16 in 7 innings hitting 12 home runs. Lead off hitter Carlin Yoder, two hitter Joe Boland, and third baseman Zach Sterry were all 4-5 while middle infielder Orlando Castillo went 5-5 and Nate McGray drove in 8 runs.

And JPS/No Pressure/Blane Dunn Const. (AR-B) scored 14 runs in the top of the 2nd and 9 in the top of the 4th to beat Combat MFG (OK-B) 25-11 in 7 innings.

“Round of 16”

The “Round of 16” was basically the top 16 teams in the nation squaring off in the heat and humidity and trying to grind out some end of season points. Bay Area Legends (CA-A) was beating BeHappy/StandardPlumbing (AZ-AA) 13-9 when BeHappy went off for 19 runs in the top of the 5th on 10 home runs. They hit 4 straight home runs to start the inning. Neither team scored late in the game and BeHappy held on to a 28-23 win, out homering Bay Area 13-8. BeHappy’s leadoff hitter Deontre Porter was 4-5 with 3 HR and 10 RBI, Matt Brady was 5-5, and the bottom of the BeHappy order was 15-19 in the win.

Juno Athletics / LSR (NJ-Major) the #2 seed struggled with ACS/Easton early trailing 8-5 as they put up 3 zero’s in the first 4 innings. But ACS blanked in the top of the 7th and Juno needing 2 to tie and 3 to win, won on a walk off homer by Mason Farmer 19-16.

I (DW) was over at the DIRTY VEGAS / #TeamDawn (TX-A) vs WestPoint (IN-AA) game. Dirty Vegas jumped out to a 6-0 lead after 1 and a half innings. But in the bottom of the 2nd WestPoint scored 10 runs on 2 homer’s making Dirty Vegas pay for a couple of walks and errors as Kyle Pearson (OG) and Ryan Ramirez each hit 3 run home runs. In the top of the 3rd DV put up a zero on 3 straight flyouts and in the top of the 4th DV got back into the game scoring 7 on 3 but WestPoint left fielder Joey Kampfer robbed a home run to keep it 15-13 WestPoint. It was all WestPoint from there as they scored 8 in the bottom of the 4th and left Dirty Vegas on the field 30-15 on a walk off grand slam by Joey Kampfer in the bottom of the 5th. Kyle Pearson (OG), Terry Lambright, and Steven Hendrickson were all perfect on base in the win with Pearson hitting 4 HR and driving in 9 runs.

In the DV vs WestPoint game there was an outfielder that touched a ball that went over the fence. In Conference USSSA it doesn’t matter if the fielder touched the ball on the inside or outside of the home run fence, it is still scored a 4 base award/error and does not count towards the home run limit for the offensive team.

In other action Anarchy and Dan Smith were in a shootout over on field #8 where the wind was blowing out some. Anarchy pulled out to a 22-8 lead going into the bottom of the 4th. But the refocused Dan Smith team scored 13 runs in the bottom of the 4th and 18 more in the bottom of the 5th to win 41-38 without having to bat in the bottom of the 7th. Dan Smith out homered Anarchy 14-11 in the game and Tyler Ervine was 6-6 with 3 HR and 6 RBI in the win.

I-57/Beloli SIS/All Hustle/JBL/Axe (IL-AA) playing their first game, outscored Primetime 10-4 in the first inning and then added 14 more in the bottom of the 4th to win 27-10, out homering Primetime 8-4. David Johnson at lead off and Orlando Olivera in the 5 hole were each 4-4 with Olivera hitting 3 HR.

In the first real upset of the tournament Envy beat the Shore OL/Cheap Suits/Str8play/Rebel (CA-Major) major team 42-34, scoring 17 in the 5th and 10 in the 6th. Joe Boland was 6-7 with 6 HR and 12 RBI in the win.

At 9:45 AM #1 seeded Resmondo-SIS-Stub Term-RDD-S&S-LLC- (FL-Major) took to the field against a feisty JPS team. But Resmondo did prevail 35-27 as Phil Matte and the newly acquired Austin Andrews each were 5-5 on base. Everyone on Resmondo except Bradley Jones hit a home run in this game (13 total).

And CutThroat/ImpactEdge/CourseyRealty (WA-B) the top ‘B’ team in the country led a depleted Worshams/HM/S&E/Demarini/RedAthlete (NC-AA) 16-12 going into the top of the 5th where they scored 15 on 6 and then finished off Worshams 43-20 by scoring 11 more runs in the top of the 6th. CutThroat out homered Worshams 14-6 in the game as leadoff hitter Juan Casteneda went 6-7, Joe Lewis went 6-7, Michael Gibson hit 4 HR and drove in 8 runs, and left fielder Ryan Dettman went 6-6 in the upset win.

Quarterfinals:

The quarterfinals were all played simultaneously on the 4 fields in the Red Quad at 11:30 AM central time. Juno left BeHappy on the field 29-12 in the bottom of the 5th on a 3 run homer by Greg Connell. Most of their lineup was 3-4 on base in that win as they out homered BeHappy 13-5.

Dan Smith trailed WestPoint 16-13 after 2 innings, but outscored WestPoint in the 6th and 7th innings 6-0 to advance 33-28.

I (DW) went over to do a condensed game of the I-57 Roofing vs Envy game as two of the top ‘AA’ teams squared off. I-57 scored 7 on 3 in the top of the 1st, and then 19 on 6 in the top of the 3rd as Steve Edwards hit two 3 run homers in the inning. When Envy went down in order in the bottom of the 4th needing 4 more to extend the game, I-57 advanced 35-12. They out homered Envy 13-6 as Jeff Roxby went 5-5 with 6 RBI in the win.

And Resmondo playing without Bubba Mack (daughter to college), Steele Lewis (pulled muscle), and Everett Williams (kids first day of school), outscored CutThroatSports 12-0 in the last 3 innings to win 30-18 out homering CutThroat 13-8. Daniel Cayton and Quincy Latimore were each 5-5 in the win and Cayton hit 4 HR and drove in 8 runs.

Semifinals:

Erik Nevoso hits a grand slam in Juno’s win over Dan Smith.

The winner’s bracket got a little break with the semifinals starting at 4:45 PM central time. In semifinal #1 it was Dan Smith and Juno over on field #6 with the wind blowing in some. Josh Riley got things started with a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 1st inning. After a slow start the game was tied at 12-12 when Erik Nevoso hit a grand slam for Juno in the top of the 4th that put them up 21-12. Then, with Dan Smith needing an answer they went down in order 1-2-3 as Juno 3rd baseman John Williams made a great backhand play on Arlis Miller. Juno then finished Dan Smith 30-12 with some nice base hitting and 3 run homers in the 5th inning.

In the other semifinal on the show field #5 Resmondo trailing their nemesis I-57 Roofing 22-12 in the top of the 5th inning, scored 8 in the 5th and Austin Andrews robbed a Jeff Roxby homer in the bottom of the 5th to make things tight. But trailing 26-25 with 2 outs in the top of the 7th, Resmondo pinch hit Everett Williams who had just got off a plane and had only warmed up with some heavy balls before entering the game. Everett hit a clutch 2 out 3 run home run to put Resmondo up. Then Tyler Marshburn hit a grand slam and Resmondo batted all the way around the order and Everett hit another 3 run homer and Resmondo won the game 37-27, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat! Resmondo out homered I-57 16-8 as Daniel Cayton and Bradley Jones were each on base 5-6.

The winner’s final was played as the sun went down on field #5 and it was probably the best game of the tournament. Both teams were hitting 2’s and 3’s early on and were “playing the game”. But Juno base hit their way to the lead in the bottom of the 3rd and Resmondo took the lead back in the top of the 4th on a 3 run homer by Jason Matusik 26-25. It was obvious as it cooled off the cores of the classic-m balls were hardening up and the offenses took over. In the bottom of the 4th, it was Juno back on top when Michal Rainer hit a grand slam to put them up 31-29. In the top of the 5th Jason Matusik hit a line driver 3 run homer to put Resmondo up 34-32 and it was 10-9 on home runs with a 16 home run limit. In the bottom of the 5th Juno grabbed another lead 37-34 but a strikeout looking ended the inning. The lead continued to seesaw back and forth as Resmondo went up 42-37 in the top of the 6th on a home run by Matusik. This one went over the lights in left center field and well onto center field of field #4. The longest homer of the tournament in my estimation and was about 445 feet! In the bottom of the 6th Juno tied the game on a 2 run homer by Matt Valencia and grabbed a 45-42 lead when their new late season pickup Jason Branch hit a 2 run homer to center field. In the top of the 7th relief pitcher Sport Williams got two Resmondo popups and Juno held on to win 45-44 without having to bat in the bottom of the 7th.

The loser’s bracket played out all day and night Thursday in the grueling heat. Bay Area Legends beat Crown, TAFN, CutThroat, and Dirty Vegas before losing to Dan Smith to finish tied for 5th. In the lower half of the loser’s bracket Primetime upset the Shore major team 45-17 to make Shore 0-2. And then the ‘AA’ teams Westpoint, BeHappy, Worshams, and I-57 battled it out with WestPoint finishing tied for 5th and I-57 advancing to a late night showdown with Dan Smith in the 4th place game. In that game I-57 scored 15 runs in the top of the 7th and held on to a 42-41 win when Dan Smith grounded out with the tying run on 3rd and 2 out.

Friday Recap

Jeff Roxby hits a pinch hit grand slam in the loser’s final.

The final 3 teams in Dual #1 battled it out starting at 8 AM central time on Friday, August 14th. I-57 was using 5 of their backups as players were exhausted and banged up knowing they had to start Dual #2 later in the day. Resmondo scored in every inning and a 3 run homer by Jeremy Yates in the top of the 6th gave Resmondo a 23-17 lead. In the bottom of the 6th I-57 got a pinch hit grand slam homer from Jeff Roxby to tie the game at 25-25. But Resmondo clutched up again in the top of the 7th getting a 2 out single from Travis Clark to score 2 runs and then a 3 run homer from Bradley Jones that cleared the walking path and brown security fence in center field, and suddenly Resmondo had scored 11 runs and ended up holding on to a 36-28 win. It was survive and advance for Resmondo in this tournament who to this point had not won a game by the run rule.

That would change in the championship as Resmondo and Juno were locked in a 22-21 game and tied on homers with 8 when Resmondo won the 4th inning 13-1 using up most of their home runs. Then the infield defense took over and Resmondo forced the “if” game 44-23. Travis Clark at lead off was 6-6 with 3 HR and 8 RBI, and Pearson, Jones, Cayton, and Latimore were all 5-6 in the win.

In the “if” game Resmondo scored 7 on 2 home runs in the top of the 1st, got the first 2 Juno batters out in the bottom of the 1st, then Juno left the bases loaded. Resmondo meanwhile was extending their lead with 3 run homer after 3 run homer going up 14-0 then 20-0. In the 4th Latimore in left field got an outfield assist, and Juno’s Erik Nevoso extended the game 26-13 on a 2 out grand slam. But Resmondo being visitors for the 4th game in a row still pulled away to a 32-17 run rule win in 6 innings. Everett Williams and Quincy Latimore were each 5-5 in the win and Latimore hit 3 home runs and drove in 6. It was Resmondo’s league high 7th tournament win of the season and 3rd on 300 foot fields (Texas, Cincy).

Dual #2 is under way, BeHappy hitting against Juno.

Dual #2

There wasn’t much rest for the teams as Dual #2 started at 11 am Friday morning while Dual #1 was finishing. Even Resmondo and Juno who played the “if” game only had about a one game wait until they started Dual #2. And Dual #2 is a bit of a blur.

“Play in” games:

Greinert scored 10 in the top of the 1st vs JPS and held on to win 23-21 even though JPS had the bats in their hands and a homer left to hit. JPS out homered Greinert 11-9 in the game. For Greinert Wendell Rieves, William Marable, and Jarod Kashner were 4-5.

Primetime beat Great Ape Grips 25-17 as Ira Brown, Kyle Weseloh, and Detorren Means each went 4-5 and Tanai Alston 4-4.

Anarchy drug Tafn 19-1 out homering them 6-1. Some of the fields on Friday had the wind blowing in. Nick Folo was 4-4 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in the win.

After a slow start WestPoint beat Crown Athletics 21-6 in 5 innings while hitting 4 home runs. Terry Lambright, Kyle Pearson (OG), and Tyler Cowles were each 4-4 and Pearson hit 2 HR and drove in 8.

Envy survived an upset bid from Chop Shop when they got the final out in the bottom of the 7th leading by 1 run 23-22. They out homered Chop Shop 8-7 as Carlin Yoder, Joe Boland, Dan Kirkwood, and Chris Seise were all 4-5 in the game and Boland hit 4 HR and drove in 8 runs.

And ACS shut down Combat MFG beating them 23-4 and out homering them 4-1. Tyler Zinn, Brandon Leblanc, Eric Kroll, Jeff Price, and Chad Pearson were all 4-5 in the game.

“Round of 16”

Bay Area Legends outscored Worshams in the last 3 innings 7-0 and out homered them 3-1 in the game to win 13-11.

Juno beat Greinert 22-13.

Primetime beat Dirty Vegas 24-7 in 7 innings out homering them 5-3. Jarvis Riggins and James Scott were each 5-5 and Rob Banks hit 2 HR and drove in 6 runs.

A “fresh” Shore OL team scored 11 in the bottom of the 1st and 8 in the bottom of the 4th to leave Anarchy on the field 26-4 by the 20 run mercy rule out homering them 5-0.

I-57 Roofing beat WestPoint in a battle of ‘AA’ teams 20-15 out homering them 8-7 as Orlando Olivera hit 3 HR and Dave Johnson went 4-5.

Dan Smith outscored Envy 15-6 in the 2nd half of the game to advance 27-20.

Quarterfinals:

In the quarterfinals the Major teams who generally have better stamina and depth started to take over the tournament in the exhaustive heat and humidity. Juno rolled through Bay Area Legends in 5 innings 34-12 scoring 19 in the top of the 3rd and 12 in the top of the 5th.

Shore OL left Primetime on the field 30-15 in the bottom of the 5th out homering them 10-6 as leadoff hitter Marc Wik went 5-5 with 5 extra base hits and 5 runs scored.

The sun was in the eyes of the batters for the first couple innings of the I-57 vs Dan Smith rematch. I-57 Roofing scored 5 runs on 4 home runs to tie their game against Dan Smith 19-19 on pinch hit homers by Edwards and Roxby but Dan Smith scored 1 on a Joey Miller walk off solo homer in the bottom of the 7th to win 20-19.

And Resmondo left BeHappy on the field in the bottom of the 5th 34-19 after hitting 14 home runs for the game. The score I believe was tied at 19-19 going into the bottom of the 5th and Resmondo scored 15 to end it. Kyle Pearson (#23) was 5-5 with 2 HR and 9 RBI and Quincy Latimore was 5-5 with 3 HR and 5 RBI in the win.

Saturday Recap

Crowds were small but showed up for Resmondo.

Semifinals:

The semifinals for Dual #2 were played on Saturday morning. In semifinal #1 Shore OL scored early and often against Juno jumping out to leads of 22-12 and 32-17 before holding on to win in a very long game 39-32 while out homering Juno 12-10. John Radich, Carlos Abrigo, Robbie Scott, and Cody Collins were each 5-6 in the game for Shore OL. Robbie Scott hit for the cycle, Radich hit 4 HR, and Cody Collins hit 4 home runs and drove in 9.

Semifinal #2 may have been the best game of Dual #2 and it was Dan Smith vs Resmondo. The season series going into the game was 8-5 Resmondo. Dan Smith won the first inning 7-6 but ended the inning by making 3 outs in a row. Dan Smith pitcher Faron Fry who pitched the entire weekend got a strikeout looking to end the top of the 2nd. In the top of the 3rd Resmondo scored 15 runs on a bunch of back breaking 2 and 3 run home runs with 2 outs. Dan Smith had a couple chances to make great plays that they usually would make but couldn’t come up with the outs. In the top of the 4th Quincy Latimore hit a 3 run homer to put Resmondo up 28-15 and Dan Smith went down in order 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 4th as Resmondo infielders 3B Bradley Jones, SS Tyler Marshburn, and MI Heath Barnes all made nice plays. In the bottom of the 5th Dan Smith hit a bunch of solo home runs to extend the game and avoid the run rule, Resmondo outfielder Austin Andrews made a great catch on the fence, and Dan Smith had an incredible two out rally to pull to within 31-25 and 12-10 on HR (16 limit). In the top of the 6th Dan Smith middleman Jeremy Fry made one of his patented highlight diving plays to end the inning down 37-25. In the bottom of the 6th Dan Smith pulled to within 7 runs 38-31 but Resmondo pitcher Brad Reckart got a foul out to end the rally. In the top of the 7th Dan Smith held Resmondo to 3 runs when defensive sub Anthony Acevedo made a nice play in the infield and Acevedo, Jeremy Fry and Ervine combined on a double play. In the bottom of the 7th Dan Smith leadoff man Arlis Miller hit a 2 out 3 run homer to tie the game at 43-43 and Resmondo, out of home runs, in the top of the 8th failed to scored and Dan Smith won the game in the bottom of the 8th 44-43 on a bases loaded single by Andrew Collins that went over a drawn in outfield. We don’t have any stats yet on Dan Smith from the Pocket City but Resmondo’s Daniel Cayton was 7-7 in this game with 4 HR, 9 RBI, and 7 runs scored in the loss.

Winner’s Final:

The winner’s final was played at 1:30 PM on Saturday in the dead heat on a very hot day. Shore OL got a diving stop by shortstop Tyler Dickens to end the 1st inning with a 3-1 lead. In the top of the 2nd up 6-1 Shore left the bases loaded and Dan Smith scored 10 on 2 in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 11-6 lead. Shore blew two double play chances early in the game on bad throws to 2nd base. In the top of the 3rd Robbie Scott and Marc Wik each hit 2 out home runs to tie the game at 11-11. In the bottom of the 4th Dan Smith put up a zero as they went down in order 1-2-3 all on flyouts with Shore leading 13-12 and it was 3-2 on home runs. In the 5th Shore went up 16-12 on a John Radich 2 run homer and in the bottom of the inning they got a nice stop by Wik at 2nd base and a diving catch by Robbie Scott in left field. In the top of the 6th Cody Collins hit a clutch, no doubter, grand slam to go up 20-15 and Shore held off Dan Smith to win 22-18. Shore out homered Dan Smith 5-4 as Wik and Anninos each went 4-5 and the team hit 8 doubles.

The loser’s bracket started on Friday and played out all day on Saturday as well. In the top half Greinert beat Chop Shop and Worshams before Behappy beat them and I-57 to finish tied for 5th after Juno beat them 27-11. In the bottom half Envy knocked off WestPoint, Primetime, and Bay Area to finish tied for 5th after Resmondo beat them 30-19.

So, the final 4 teams were all Major teams and they did finish Dual #2 on Saturday. In the 4th place game Resmondo separated from Juno in the top of the 5th 18-8 and 7-3 on home runs. In the bottom of the 5th Juno’s Jason Branch hit a 3 run homer to make it 18-14. Resmondo hit 4 solo homers in the top of the 6th and Quincy Latimore in left field preserved a 22-19 lead on a diving catch in the bottom of the 6th. In the top of the 7th Juno middleman Dan Herren made a nice diving stop to hold Resmondo to a 23-19 lead and in the bottom of the 7th Juno walked down Resmondo, winning on a Buddy Wolf double 24-23 when Sam Campbell scored from 1st.

In the loser’s bracket finals, a 5-10-3 double play turned by Juno ended the bottom of the 2nd with a 11-9 Juno lead. In the top of the 4th Jeremy Fry came in to pitch for his brother Faron Fry and he did pretty well except for some walks that led to a Mason Farmer grand slam and a 19-12 Juno lead. The Dan Smith offense just never got fully untracked putting up a zero in the bottom of the 4th. In the top of the 5th Jeremy still at pitcher made a full out diving stop and turned a 1-10-3 double play. But in the bottom of the 5th Dan Smith left the bases loaded and trailing 25-16 going into the bottom of the 7th they did score 7 but lost 25-23.

In the championship game Saturday night Juno grabbed a 12-10 lead in the top of the 4th on a Buddy Wolf grand slam home run. They went on to score 19 runs in the inning, held Shore OL to zero in the bottom of the 4th, and scored 12 more runs in the top of the 5th to win 39-15 and force the “if” game. Juno out homered Shore OL 16-7 in the game as half of the team went 5-6 or 6-6 in the victory.

In the “if” game Juno’s Michal Rainer hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 10-9 lead on Shore OL whose defense was a little shaky in the final game. In the top of the 3rd Juno 3rd baseman Bishop Harris made a nice backhand play but Carlos Abrigo hit a 2 run homer to give Shore a 15-10 lead. In the bottom of the 4th Juno’s Nick Guillen hit a key 3 run homer to put them up 23-17. And in the top of the 6th Shore OL answered with a Joey Capparelli 3 run homer to center field to go up 28-27. When Juno put up a zero in the bottom of the 6th against pitcher Andrew Vitcak, Shore came in and got 2 runs on a homer by Cody Collins to go up 30-27. In the bottom of the 7th needing 3 to tie and 4 to win with 4 home runs left, Juno managed just 1 run and lost to Shore OL 30-28 even though Juno out homered them 12-11 in the game. Marc Wik was 5-5 and Carlos Abrigo 5-5 with 3 HR and 5 RBI in the win. It was Shore OL’s 2nd tournament win of the season (HOF).

The tournaments were well run. The ball made for some great games and more 7 inning games than normal. It actually felt like a home run meant something important in these games and defense and pitching returned to the Conference. I would like to give a big thank you to the umpires who grinded through a very tough event. And also, the players who continued to play hard throughout the 3 days of nonstop softball. It felt like almost every Major team, AA team, and A team in the tournament had some success at some point over the 3 days.

Note, in Dual #1 Joe Boland from Envy had 19 hits and all 19 were home runs. In Dual #2 he hit 18 HR. So he had 37 HR for the weekend which is more than some teams hit.

Juno Athletics/LSR

NJ-Major Record 10-4 Avg Finish: 2.0

Juno was double dipped and then couldn’t quite pull off the double dip but ended up 2nd in both tournaments for the highest average finish of any team. Farmer was .944 and Valencia was .800 on base in the first dual and Rainer, Washington, Farmer, Nevoso, Campbell, and Harris were all over 700 in the second, while Buddy Wolf hit 14 HR in the 2nd dual. Farmer and Sport Williams did the pitching. They are without Donnie Walsh for the year (torn Achilles).

Juno picked up Jason Branch before the tournament.

Resmondo/SIS/Stub Term/RDD/S&S/LLC-

FL-Major Record 9-3 Avg Finish: 2.5

Resmondo just has to finish like 7th at the Conference Championships to wrap up the #1 seed at the major and they won the regular seasons points standings. Reckart did a lot of the pitching with Clark at EH. . Cayton was .769 with 14 HR in the 1st dual while Clark, Matte, Pearson, and Latimore were over .700 and Everett Williams .875 off the bench. The defense of Andrews and Latimore in the outfield was a key for them. In the 2nd dual some of the players struggled offensively but Jones, Clark, Marshburn, Matusik, Pearson, and Latimore were all over .700 with Cayton leading at .800. It looks like Pearson edged out Clark for the batting title.

Brad Reckart did a lot of the pitching for Resmondo.

Dan Smith/Proton/Thunder/RoofX/RF/BD

IN-Major Record 6-4 Avg Finish: 3.5

Dan Smith hasn’t turned in stats yet. They lost some close games and needed to win both tournaments to have a shot at the points title. But they have just been too inconsistent on offense and even defense at times to win tournaments although they did win those back to back tournaments this year at the Smoky and Seattle #1. So you know they have it in them. Faron Fry did the bulk of the pitching. It looks like Ervine will win the home run title if he hit 15 or more HR in the Pocket City. Joe Boland after hitting 37 HR this past weekend is now at 101 HR and Ervine was at 87 coming in.

Shore OL/CheapSuits/Str8play/Rebel

CA-Major Record 5-3 Avg Finish: 7.0

After Shore OL lost that first game to Envy in Dual #1 they kind of cashed in that tournament so they would be fresh for Dual #2. And it worked as they won Dual #2 in the “if” game. They played without pitcher Kyle Center (business trip) and lefty Ryan Honeycutt (injury). In the 2nd dual Carlos Abrigo hit .808, Cody Collins .760, and Marc Wik .750. Vitcak was a warrior on the mound earning MVP.

I-57 Roofing/Beloli SIS/All Hustle/JBL/Axe

IL-AA Record 6-4 Avg Finish: 5.0

I-57 played without Nic Perkins (baby) and Jordan Spaulding (injured) and used their bench extensively to be the highest finishing ‘AA’ team. David Johnson hit .912 and Orlando Olivera .813 to lead the offense in Dual #1. Orlando Olivera at .824 in Dual #2 led the offense in that one. I-57 had that huge win over Dan Smith to finish 3rd in dual #1 and played well against the ‘AA’ teams. I believe I-57 and WestPoint will be the only ‘AA’ teams in Denver this coming weekend.
